Grey patterned
falls gently on the dirt brick homes
of fallen women and children.
Bright lights capture
the ashen faces of children
waiting for St. Nick to find their homes.
Tattered mothers look up
into the blacken sky,
and wish upon the building star
to bring home at least one gift for their children.
Welfare Santas
standing on the corners
ringing their tarnished bells
waiting for the quarters to pile up
so they may buy their Christmas wine
Blank, tired faces wander by
in their fancy cars
Not seeing, Not caring,
Just another day
in the gray black city
Just another holiday that shall pass us all by...
