Foggy Days

 I live in the Sacramento Valley of California.  The fog was so dense this morning on my way to work.  I could only see the car lights of the car in front of me and no further.  As I got higher in elevation, I eventually got above the fog bank.  The Highway Patrol was leading cars down the highway through the foggy patches.  It was quite amazing.  I just watched the news, and they have forcasted more fog tomorrow.

It's been terribly foggy over here off the coast, too, these last few nights... I remember many times when the Highway Patrol had to lead groups of cars over the Golden Gate Bridge -- a few at a time... It's kind of cool looking, actually... :o)

Hope everyone is careful in that kind of weather. You really have to be a defensive driver.

We have had a few foggy days here lately, but nothing like what you have had. I can't imagine having to drive through that.

My deepest respect for those who have to try to drive in Tule fog. I was in 24 car pile up in that horrible stuff down near Visalia. I was the 23rd car hit and I hit the 24th car. I was out of work for 6 months in spite of the fact I was stopped on the freeway as a result of the 22 other wrecks. This was back in 1991 and I still deal with the effects of that accident.

There was a bad accident on Highway 50 today. There were two fire engines, an ambulance, five CHPs and four smashed cars. I didn't want to be a rubber necker, especially in the fog, but it looked ugly.

On really foggy days here I would drive my kids to school and tell them that if we couldn't see the school from the street then they didn't have to go that day. It usually happened a couple days out of the school year. What always surprised me is they would just look at me and say "yeah sure, Mom" and then get out of the car and go in. Not sure what I would have done if they had taken my up on it!

Usually after daylight the fog begins to lift.The kids knew School would still be in session if the bus could get there.
