So, life is good. The divorce is final. All moved into the new house. Got an adorable puppy dog and still have the two kitties. Life has returned to normal. And then a little face appears at the sliding glass door.
So I go outside to see this cute little furry thing. I pet her a little, all matted up and dirty, but friendly and sweet. I pet for awhile and she purrs and then I send her on her merry way convinced that surely she must have escaped from somewhere or had been let outside. The next day, sure enough there she is again. Same sweet little face and filthy as can be. So I scoop her up and check her out a little better. No collar. Making funny sniffling sounds instead of meows, so covered in mats I can't really tell if it's a boy or girl and still looking pitiful as can be. But declawed, so she has to belong to somebody right? Put down a little bowl of food and sure enough, it's scarfed up as fast as can be. Hungry huh?
All right, nobody took you back in... Let's see what we can do here....
Into the basement we came. (Seperate from the other fuzzies just in case she has something really bad). Nothing in either local paper about a missing kitty fitting anywhere near her description. A trip to the vet shows no microchip, but a massive respiratory infection and shaving the mats off confirmed she's a girl and neutered. The vet checked with the local pounds, no missing reports there either.
Two weeks later: fourteen pills, two flea dips, a full round of shots, a de-worming and a partridge in a pear tree later, it would appear I have a new kitty! Her name is now Kalamazoo, Kali for short, and she is officially good as new, registered, has a collar and has claimed Mitzie, the dog, as her friend.
I'm pleased to annouce the newest, and hopefully last for awhile, member of the family: Kalamazoo!
