Winter Wonderland - Photo Essay

Yesterday, we drove a 300 mile round trip to take my parents home.  They had spent four days with us for Thanksgiving.  The ride back was truly a white-knuckle trip.  Snow was blowing straight at us from the north and visibility was poor.  We noticed a dozen or so vehicles that had slid off the road.  Not encouraging.

This morning, we awoke to see this:

Had we been teleported to the North Pole?


Closer inspection revealed that the Skidway Lake area had been heavily frosted by Old Man Winter.


Snow continued to fall throughout the day.

No one went out unless it was absolutely necessary.

Snow fell softly, gently and quietly.

No sunshine today.

It was still snowing this evening.  We Skidwaynians are thankful for warm shelter, a fire in the fireplace, Thanksgiving leftovers and a front row seat to view the beauty of nature.

Oh my I wish we could have a few days like this! I love snow and we here in Oklahoma do not get much of it.. Beautiful pictures!!!!

The first snow fall and fresh fallen snow is always beautiful to see, it gives us a sense of renewing and freshness. Just don't like it when it gets old and the roads become treacherous. Beautiful capture of the snow falling and your yard and porch.

wow that looks beautiful, but i am sure it is freezing cold. brrr i do not like the cold to much. and how did you get the pictures in your post like this?????? i have tried this earlier, but it did not work, all i got was the sideshow???? thanks if you can help me.

Incredible photos! I especially love the ones showing snow on the trees....that is an incredible sight! We have snow as well (here in Iowa). The trees are just beautiful!

I can never get pics like that when I take them-they are beautiful! I love looking at the snow, but I hate driving in it and the fact that it is cold!! :)

We drove from Philly to our home yesterday. It was raining in Philly but the closer we got to home the more snow we had.

I don't mind snow if I don't have to go out in it. You captured some great shots. Although I don't like the snow it is hard to deny it is beautiful.

Wow Jan that a lot of snow ,great photo essay, we were suppose to get a fair amount of snow but being mild and near the lake it can down in rain instead

This is so beautiful though once again I find myself in awe over the beauty in a friends photos of snow. It almost but not quite makes me want to go to a place where I can be a part of the winter wonderland. At this point I remember when I spun my car in to guard rails, flipped my car and side over side and nose over nose because of black ice. At that point I start thinking rationally and believe it is better for everyone if I stay in the south.

We had quite a odd afternoon of weather here. First thunder, then snow and hail at the same time, then thunder once again. Then it just continued to rain throughout the rest of the day.

Very beautiful as usual Jan. I would love that if I lived there and never had to leave my house, lol. It is the perfect view to look at upon. We haven't had any snow here yet, but I am sure it will come. Our son in Colorado already had 27 inches.

Jan the photos were absolutely beautiful. The beauty of freshly fallen snow is the one thing I truly enjoy about winter. Driving in the snow is not one of my favorites.

Thanks, everyone. It is easier to admire the beauty of snow when we don't have to go out in it. Retirement makes it possible to stay home until the roads are clear. I used to hate the early morning scraping and shoveling to get the car out for work.

Great shots, Jan. You're lucky you're getting snow. I've seen many a brown Christmas and it looks like that's what we'll get this year. We've had snow in various spots, in the valley and the mountains are nicely topped. I have a photo to stitch and as soon as I can, I'll post it.
