Driving in a Storm

We had our first snow storm last night.  I went to lay down before going to work only to wake up at 10pm to find there was snow.  By the time I left for work it was sleet and rain.  My usual 14 min. ride turned into a 30 min. nightmare.  When I got on the ramp to get onto the turnpike I saw blues lights.  As I got closer I could see 3 SUV's off the road.  A little further up the road was several more cars off the road. 

Thankfully, all the vehicles were going slow.  The snow doesn't bother me that much but the mix of sleet and rain is scary enough.  I made it to work on safely and on time.  I felt bad for the ones who were going home because they had cars.  I have a Jeep Liberty and I use my 4-wheel drive.  By the time I got to work it wasn't getting any better out.  One of the workers called when they got home.  It took her 50 mins. to get home and she lives about 12 mins. away from work. 

Today the weather is somewhat cloudy and the main roads are clear.  I just hope we don't get a lot of snow mixed with sleet and rain this winter.  It makes me nervous driving in that stuff.  So, winter is here my part of Maine.
