Thanksgiving Couplets Round-up -- the Odds & Ends
Getting all the food on table is a big chore, and more so serving up everyone's favourites! Now that we covered the main elements of the feast, let's chat about some more Turkey Day Pairings - the Odds & Ends:
Thanksgiving Day ... Day of Thanksgiving
... giving Thanks, do you ...
Attend a religeous service on Thanksgiving.
-or-
Just give Thanks at the beginning of the meal.
I was a little surprised about this one. Considering the purported upswing in religeous tendencies and proclamations of faith going on around this country, I expected there to be at least a few folks attending church before diving into their Thanksgiving feast. All respondents said thanks before their meal.
Where is Thanksgiving dinner this year?
Half of folks hosted Thanksgiving dinner at their house, while the other half were guests at someone else's house. The Thanksgiving holiday has long been the biggest travel period in the US and often sets new travel records on the Sunday after the big dinner.
Thanksgiving Day Parades, which one do you watch?
The IKEA parade got only one vote, everyone else was watching Macy's Snoopy balloon float through Manhattan. Someone commented they didn't even know IKEA sponsored a parade ... neither did I until I went looking for topics for this series.
What do you think about Black Friday?
I am going to battle the sale crowds with
all my might and purse to the bloody end!
-or-
NO!!! I am staying home, locking the doors, and
hiding under the bed 'til the damn thing's over!
Considering all the Gather-Jabber leading up to Black Friday ... only 1/3 of respondents were going to strap on their armor and do battle in the aisles and at the registers, all the rest were hiding under their beds waiting for it to be over! I checked the ads in the Thanksgiving paper (come to think of it, I don't think there was any actual paper in the baggy to read) and I didn't see any really great deals, nothing worth fighting through the L-Tryptophan induced grogginess of a good Thanksgiving dinner in order to make an o'god o'clock in the morning trip to the parking lot of some big box store.
TV on Thanksgiving -- How do you prefer your Charlie Brown?
Some folks will watch both A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving and This is America, Charlie Brown, but the vast majority watch only the traditional Charlie Brown Thanksgiving ... ahem ... there was one UnAmerican respondent who gave Charlie Brown a thums-down ... bet the Great Pumpkin doesn't come by their house!
And finally -- Thanksgiving ... what day?
Ok oK ... I was just trying to give you all a little something besides politics, religeon, and sex to discuss after Thanksgiving dinner ... man, was this a one-sided discussion ... no one, I mean ABSOLUTELY NO ONE! would even consider moving Thanksgiving to a different day!!! ... sheesh, just thought maybe, if we moved it up a week or two that the merchants would hold off playing xmas music until after dinner ...
