I'm having such a great time finding photos to use with this OOB, or "Out of Bounds" technique done in either Photoshop or Photoshop Elements, that I'm finding myself quite unable to STOP. I hope those of us who are creating these fun photos are encouraging more and more of you to try your hand at it. The more you do it, the easier it gets.
Again, should you want to venture into new Photoshop territory, the tutorial I've been using is located at http://www.flickr.com/photos/serrator/sets/72157594146002408/show/, and he walks you through this, step by step.
For all of your Paintshop Pro users, I just located an OOB tutorial at http://tutorom.fr/products/Corel-Paint-Shop-Pro-X2-tutorials.htm. You'll have to scroll down inside the tutorial frame that is there until you get to "OOB Photo Project". I haven't scrutinized it yet, but I will take a look at it at some point. It is the same technique, but done using Paintshop Pro.
Here is my latest OOB project, where I chose a surfer whose photo I took while we were out in Newport Beach, California last May 2008. I thought it was a perfect subject matter for this kind of thing:
...and made it into this:
I'm so excited to see how this has taken off on Gather! Everyone's doing such a great job! Heather W. has also started up an OOB Gather group at http://outofbounds.gather.com, where you'll want to post your latest and greatest creations, so we can see all the possibilities and be inspired by one another.
Have fun, and get out there and get creative! ;-D

I keep trying but get stuck at a certain point after making the frame. It erases to black - not the gradient layer. I'll keep trying.
I'm glad Heather made a group.
Lemme know if that doesn't work.
Nancy, I agree it is addictive :0) I have a project for school to work on today so no new OOBS from me for a couple days heh
I did figure it out.
It was my first time working with layers.
( *sniff* )
Ok then. Great photo. ;)
