Grandma's Map
The whispering beauty of your face,
with all its cracks and lines and furrows,
makes a map—a map from there to here.
There is where your smile was broad and deep, laughing silvery streamers to the sky.
There is when salt rivulets took their time drying in a summer long ago.
There is how your music made the raging autumn waters still and silent.
There is what you call the lonely evening lark's song in the winter.
There is who all sapling trees become after snow retreats.
Here is where we now, together, are.
There are other theres and other heres,
all either having been explored or waiting for adventurers
like you.

I love how you gently eased into describing her beauty with the word ‘whispering’, then eloquently detailed her cracks, lines and furrows with brilliantly sculpted lines. These [below] are marvelous. Wonderfully reflective of time and seasons, and their connection to this glorious map on her face. What a superb write!!!

I'm sure we can all relate to this - in my case it is my mother who can present such a map of experience and emotion.

Just commenting you back, thanking you for a comment you made on one of my articles or pics! I always pay back the comments (even if it's a bit late!)
I have character lines on my face, too. I would never botox them away. It would be like erasing important events in my life.
Congratulations!
I just wanted to stop by since I am finally going through what is now listed as under 5,200 pieces of gather new mail that is sitting in my inbox on here.
With that mentioned I just came across either a mailing from you yourself, or someone else brought this piece to my attention. You or they felt that your creation should be shared with the gather community, which I am very glad that it was passed on to me to view. So I wanted to say Thank you for taking the time out of your busy day to publish it here on gather for us to all view. :o)
As well before I leave you I wanted to wish you a Happy New Year... in 2009 :o)
