Angkor WatI've visited a lot of places in my life. Many of them which failed to live up to the hype people ascribe to them. But Angkor Wat is not one of those place. It is every bit as amazing, special, huge, stupendous and indescribable as it is billed to be. Absolutely stunning.

First, the size: it has the distinction of being the world's largest religious structure. And damn, it is big. One can buy one day, three day and week long passes to the site. It's that big.

And you know what, it was so big I am a bit exhausted. So, I'll let the photos speak for themselves. Start from here and work your way forward. I've upload about 50+ new photos.

Now, excuse me, I've got to go rustle up a bus ticket to Bangkok. More on Angkor Wat later.

Great photos, I really like them. I'd love to see Angkor Wat. The city itself once covered an area the size of Los Angeles. I'd also like to know more about the East and West baray, which have long been dry. I am greatly enjoying your travels through SE Asia. Your writing is also superb.

Karie Anne, yes, the area around Siem Reap is VERY SAFE. There are super POSH resort hotels in Siem Reap, Hyatt, Marriot, Sofitel, all the big names. Plus hundreds of guest houses. You can pay five bucks for a bed or $500, depending on your tastes. If you are thinking about visiting, send me a message and I'll give you the lowdown.
