Got My First DUI Last Night

Well....I got arrested last night for DUI. I was so scared. I ended up sitting in jail from 12 am to 6 oclock tonight.

I have never been in any trouble before. It was a definate wake up call, and I have to say, I won't be drinking anymore.  I can't believe what poor judgement I made.

A good friend of mine came and bailed me out. I am very thankful, being that Thanksgiving is tomorrow. I would have hated to be in their, especially since my son wouldn't be able to be with me then.

My roomates told him I was in my room sleeping all day...he had been spending the night at a friends house the night before. He is spending the night there again tonight. I don't think I am going to tell him. I am embarrassed. My car is in the impound as well, and I can't get it until Friday morning, being that tomorrow is a holiday.

I have court on December 3rd. I don't loose my lisence for 46 more days, and then after that it will be suspended for 6 months because I didn't blow.

I still can't believe how stupid that was of me. I feel horrible for worrying my friends and family. Plus I was supposed to work today. My roomate called them, and then when she picked me up, she took me up to work. I had to show them all my paperwork. They were not mad...more happy that I didn't hurt anyone...as am I.
I couldn't live with myself if I had hit someone...

I don't know what happends now. Just have to wait to see how much my fines are I guess.

It's good that you are looking at it as a wakeup call. Too many people look at it and blame others, or refuse to take it seriously. I'm glad you were safe, though being arrested does suck.

I really hope this is a wake up call for you. My best friends dad was killed by a drunk driver. People who drink and drive really tick me off!

yes princess, it was definatly a wake up call...Ang, I know...I can't believe I was such an idiot.
Got mine in 1982, and though that isn't what stopped me from drinking, it sure stopped me from driving when I did. I don't, anymore, and I've never regrettedthat decision, when I finally made it. A DUI is a scary experience, but it's good you learned from your ordeal.

you will be ok. they will probably fine you and make you take drivers classes. try not to worry ok. just next time have a designated driver if you want to drink. the main thing is that you learn your lesson from this and judging from your article. I think you have. God Bless You
Holly, it takes a lot of guts to write something like this. When the time is right, you should tell your son so he doesn't make the same mistake. I hope you don't bash yourself too badly for this screw up. Yeah, it was a serious screw up, but you know it and you know better. That's the important thing, that you learn from this experience. It took a night in the drunk tank to teach my cousin the same lesson and she never repeated it.

That's a tough lesson but maybe it saved your life or someone else's. I imagine it will be expensive and will be hard to go without a drivers license for awhile.

Please make sure you stick with your decision to not drink anymore. Drinking & driving is a horrible thing to do & can have life-altering effects.

Aren't you glad that you got caught by the police, rather than by the fate of killing someone, or even yourself, leaving your son an orphan!

I'm glad that you plan to make the right decision from here on. Now please stick to it!

I am glad you had a wake up call. Soone I know and her two children were recently killed by a drunk driver! I hope you never do it again!

Good wake up call I hope. When i was drinking and boy did I drink. My frequent prayer was "God if you get me out of this one I promise I will never do it again." Well now sober over 16 yrs I realized that was the most insincere prayer anyone can make. If someone in court system offers help take it and go at it with an open mind. Today I am grateful for being sober and now that you or no one else was hurt. If you dont want to stop drinking insist on designated driver. Oh that means all the cokes etc they can drink and burgers and fries for putting up with all of you and if necessary a car cleaning service lol. You have much to be thankful for this thanksgiving.

Ask to get a conditional license so you can get to work and such.

I drove home so drunk one night that I didn't even remember how I got home. I looked out the window to be sure my pick up was outside.

Nothing happened, but it was a hell of a wake up call anyway. Just the evening before my husband was driving and I remarked about all the many people walking alongside this road at night - with no street lights and no sidewalk and often with little children.

What if I had hit one of them? After that little scare I have never had more than two glases of wine when I know I need to drive myself home. I switch to water after that or I have only one wine or beer if I know I won't be staying long.

It was a little strange at first to remember to have only one or two drinks, but I never ever drove drunk again - that was a long - long time ago.
