You might have noticed the neat photos jumping 'Out of Bounds' here on Gather recently. My icon of Beauregard the Wonder Cat is an example.
My friend Nancy M. inspired me with this photo of handsome Reno.
She learned about the Out of Bounds technique in this article by DesertDarlene L.
But I have Photoshop Elements and the 'mask tool' was nowhere to be seen, so I found this tutorial on flickr that demonstrates the technique without needing the mask tool. Believe me, I'm a Photoshop loser so if I can do it, anyone can. The only thing I didn't understand was when it talked about making the photo larger on Photoshop to erase the edges. How do you do that? I noticed once my icon was here on Gather, it could have used some extra touch-up that I didn't see on the smaller version while I working Photoshop on it.
I did find a free download for Photoshop for the mask tool but my Photoshop Elements 6 keeps telling me it cannot open it because it is the wrong type of file. Can anyone help me out on this?
Have fun making your photos jump Out of Bounds! I look forward to seeing them here on Gather.

I will have to check it out...
thanks Patricia......................
Hmmmmmmmmm...wrong type of file. Do you have a Mac or PC? Are you trying to open it with Photoshop? Do you need to "unstuff" or "expand" the file first? Hopefully one of these questions takes you to your answer.
At least you can no longer fear being tied to stakes by a primitive tribe of graphic designers and sacrificed to their God.
...unless you're into that kind of thing.

Are you meaning zoom in/out to get the touch ups? That's what I do, its the little magnify glass on the left hand tool bar (at least is is in 3.0. . donno what edition you have :) )
Thanks for sharing it. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!!!
I wanted to stop by and wish you a Happy Thanksgiving just Don’t touch my turkey

I just recently got photoshop version 5 from my stepmother so I am pretty new at it and don't know how to do all the neat stuff with it yet.
