Five Types of Human Beings in HD
Before we get to the five types, I'm thinking maybe we should review how the Human Design theory works, since most of you are new to this.
Human Design is a map of "you" based on a combination of modern genetic knowledge and ancient wisdom that integrates genetics with the energies of the human chakra system, the I-Ching book of changes, the astrological star system, and the Kabalistic tree of life.
Your birth information is used to calculate your astrological chart and this chart is then converted into the corresponding hexagrams and lines of the I-Ching. The full chart is a Mandala with a Body Graph in the center, which looks like this:
Blank Human Design Mandala
The outer rim of the Mandala shows the 64 hexagrams of the I-Ching, which is the Chinese Book of Changes. Each hexagram has six lines with six meanings, which correspond to the 360 degrees of astrological wheel. The middle ring shows the numbers that correspond to the 64 hexagrams, each of which represent a Gate. The inner ring shows the astrological chart, and the inner circle of the Mandala is divided into 64 pie wedges, one per hexagram, which is where the planets activate the Gates.
In the center of the circle is a Body Graph, which represents the Kabalistic Tree of life. Each number in the body graph represents a hexagram Gate, which opens into an energy Channel that meets another different energy from another Gate at the other end. The Shapes in the body graph represent the Centers of the Hindu Chakra system. From top to bottom, they are:
Spleen Sacral Solar Plexus
The Heart, Sacral and Solar Plexus are Motors, or energy sources. We will discuss the Centers further in our next study.
When two connecting Gates are activated by planets, that Channel is Defined along with its connecting Centers. This shows where you have a reliable, stable energy pathway always moving in your body. Gates that are activated, but do not connect via the channel to the Gate at the other end, are open or undefined, and subject to conditioning by your environment.
On the Body Graph Chart of Carl Jung, we see there are two columns on each side of the graph with thirteen different symbols corresponding to the Sun, Moon, Earth, North and South Nodes of the Moon, and the other eight planets. The black symbols represent the planets' locations at the time of your birth. The gates activated by these planets determine your "Conscious Personality." A second astrological chart is computed for the time of your soul's incarnation, eighty-eight days before your birth. Gates activated by these red symbols determine your "Unconscious Design."
We will be concentrating on this, the Body Graph of Carl Gustav Jung, Â for our study, but you can get your personal Body Graph and follow along to learn more about yourself. I want to make it clear that I am no expert in this field, I merely have studied the basics, and wanted to bring it here so that we could study it together. So any insights you might have would be very helpful. So without further ado:
Five Types of Human Beings:
There are Five different Types of Energy configurations that have been scientifically documented in over 30,000 cases (cf. Research Verifies 5 Types in the Human Design System, by Eleanor Haspel-Portner, PhD., Unified Life Sciences, 2001-2003). These five Types are:
Carl Jung is a Generator, along with 36% of the population, including Ludwig Van Beethoven, John Lennon and Albert Einstein. Generators are the ones who provide continual power and life-force energy to the world. These are the people with staying power, and energy to burn. They don't go to bed until they are exhausted. Their life is about the right work.
Because the Sacral Center is activated and turned on at all times, these folks are pure power, which creates the vital energy required for doing and creating. Pure Generators are NOT initiators, nor are they manifestors who can do anything any time they please. Generators must respond from within themselves to whatever life sends their way, so they are always seeking to discover inner knowledge. We can see this is true in the life of Carl Jung:
"A number of childhood memories gave him the basis for many of his later theories. As a boy he carved a tiny manikin into the end of the wooden ruler from his pupil's pencil case and placed it inside the case. He then added a stone which he had painted into upper and lower halves of, and hid the case in the attic. Periodically he would come back to the manikin, often bringing tiny sheets of paper with messages inscribed on them in his own secret language. This ceremonial act, he later reflected, brought him a feeling of inner peace and security. In later years, he discovered that similarities existed in this memory and the totems of native peoples like the collection of soul-stones near Arlesheim, or the tjurungas of Australia. This, he concluded, was an unconscious ritual that he did not question or understand at the time, but was practiced in a strikingly similar way in faraway locations that he as a young boy had no way of consciously knowing about. His theories of psychological archetypes and the collective unconscious were inspired in part by this experience."

The "not self" theme for Generators comes when they try to initiate action, which causes frustration. This is not who they are, nor how they were designed. When Generators try to be Manifestors they live frustrated and unhappy lives.
Their strategy for living life correctly is dependent on how the Sacral Center is really designed to work. It is responsible for sexuality, reproduction, nurture and the life force, which are primal energies. As such, a Sacral response may come in the form of a grunt, like "Uh huh" for "yes" and "Unh unh" for "no." The Sacral Center can only respond in the moment. Generators don't have to be specifically asked a question to be able to respond. They can respond to events and ideas.
If Generators can live their lives correctly, then frustration will be eliminated from their life.
#2 Manifesting Generators
32% of the worlds' population are Manifesting Generators, including Marie Curie, Bob Dylan, Sigmund Freud, Mother Teresa, and Martin Luther King. Oh yeah, and my grandson, too.
All of the above applies to Manifesting Generators as well, but Manifesting Generators have their throat activated and connected to a motor. The Throat is the center of action and communication. The difference between Generators and Manifesting Generators is that Manifesting Generators can respond quicker, and tend to be all inclusive with a powerfully magnetic aura. Manifesting Generators can achieve great things with minimal frustration when they allow the clear sacral response first. They have a special gift of putting response into action. These folks are like the worker bees, always busy making the honey. They just have to be careful of being so busy being busy that they miss the many stimuli around them.
These folks make up 9% of the worlds' population, including J. Edgar Hoover, Adolph Hitler, Orson Wells, Jesse Jackson, and George W Bush.
Manifestors have at least one of three motors connected directly or indirectly, to the Throat, which is the center of action and communication. Since a motor is connected to the throat, and therefore has an outlet for expression, Manifestors are able to initiate action. They not only like to inform others of their intentions, but also like to be informed before others take action. This helps them to have the upper hand in any situation. They have access to incredible power which can be turned on suddenly and without warning. This can sometimes frighten other people and at times, even the Manifestor themselves!
Manifestors are not designed to be team players, they are either leaders, or lone wolves. They do not like others telling them what to do and how to do it because it gives them a negative feeling to have to ask permission. They aren't here to "wait" on anyone. They are here to "initiate" and make a great impact on others. The Manifestor wants to know the outside world. They look for the resistance field of what opposes them. They oftentimes are unconscious of the impact they are having on others.
The Manifestor's "not self" theme comes when they rebel against others, and that shows up in the form of anger. If they don't follow their strategy to inform others, they will meet great resistance and suspicion from others, which creates deep levels of anger for them. Suppressed anger leads to stress, which turns up later in health problems.
Manifestors tend to go to bed before they are tired.
22 % of the world's population are Projectors, including Princess Diana, Virginia Woolf, Tony Blair, Charles Darwin, John F Kennedy, and Barack Obama.
Projectors never have their Sacral Center activated and defined, and never have their Throat connected to a motor center, but have at least two other centers that are activated and defined.
Projectors have the ability to work with and guide the energy of others. These folks are most definitely "people persons" who bring people together and organize them. Oftentimes we see them as networkers. They don't generate or manifest, but instead they are managers who constantly draw energy to themselves. Because of this, they usually stand out in a crowd.
They also have the ability to read the energy of others accurately, so they know who can get things done and who cannot. When they develop this ability they can take in and project energy back to others. Projectors are natural studiers of information and other people. Whilst they are waiting for correct invitations Projectors should study and rest because they need to be ready when the correct invitation comes.
A successful strategy for Projectors is to wait to be invited. They have to realize that they are here to be recognized, although this cannot be a forced action. They are like screens that become projected on by others. Being recognized empowers them. When they are recognized for who they really are, according to their design, they can achieve almost anything, provided they wait for the invitation, because they will give recognition in return.
Their "not self" theme occurs when they refuse to wait for the invitation to share the sacral energy of others, and shows up as bitterness. They can become resentful because they have no consistent access to an energy source, and do not like to have to compromise. When Projectors step outside their design to initiate and generate, they will find themselves becoming exhausted. They are not part of the work force.
If a Projector waits for the invitation there will be no resistance from others and they will then be granted the use of the energy resources of whoever has invited them. Thinking of Barack Obama, we can see that he has been invited by the people. There has been little resistance from the majority, including the media. This invitation and support encourages him to respond in kind. In other words, he will invite us, which he has done via Change.gov and he will also give back the recognition, which we saw him do with Hillary Clinton. Some folks might think that to be for show, but no, that is actually his design.
Projectors not only go to bed before they are tired, but they like to read and watch TV from their bed.
This is a very lonesome crowd with only 1% of the world's population being Reflectors, including Willem Aantjes, H G Wells, Felix Mendelssohn, Richard Burton, and Sandra Bullock
This is a very extraordinary design, as the Reflector has no energy or awareness Centers turned on and activated. Every Center in their design chart is completely white. These are the illusionists, because they have no patterns of their own. They are open to the world around them in every possible way. They are literally mirrors capturing the reflections of others.
They can be very wise people if they understand their openness. They were designed to experience wonder and awe, and should not be rushed in their processing of the world. They are the wise observers of life and often live a mystical lifestyle. They tend to feel things before others do.
They are here to reflect upon the community they live in, and if the community is supportive of them, the whole community will thrive and prosper. The most important thing to Reflectors is finding the right place to be, because they actually are the place, not the person. They are the yardstick of society, and they are here to reflect on the whole.
Knowing where the planets are in their chart is very important for Reflectors. Because they have no defined channels or centers, the planets moving through their regular orbits activate and deactivate the gates like lights blinking on an Christmas Tree. Reflectors feel these effects deeply, so it is important for them to understand what they are feeling.
They also have a fixed lunar pattern which repeats every month. With such a close relationship with the Moon their best strategy is to wait 30 days before making any major decisions.
The "not self" theme of the Reflector is disappointment. They can feel totally dejected by the resistance they meet, and can become easily disturbed if they do not understand their design because they are vulnerable to adverse conditioning by those around them. If the community does not accept and support them they often feel left out. And because they have no patterns of their own, they have to endure constant identification with the emotions and stress of other people.
The most important thing for a Reflector to realize is that they are an open vessel, waiting to be filled, so that they can then reflect back to others. The key to success is being in tune with your environment and waiting for the right timing.
Now that we have had a chance to look at the five types of human beings, you might be able to recognize these types in your own family and among your own friends. It is important for us to be accepting of the design of others, so that they can flourish. If you haven't gotten your own personal chart, or would like to get one for a family member follow the link below.
For the next session we will move on to the nine Chakra centers and their inner authority.
