I had to go down to San Rafael in Marin County (one county to our south here in Sonoma) today to help O.A.O.C. ("One And Only Child") with some errands she had to run down there and I was struck anew at what a unique and artistic structure the Marin Civic Center (the complex that houses Marin County's courts and governmental offices) is...
It was designed by the emminent architect Frank Lloyd Wright in the "Art Deco" style. (The below photo of the complete structure is courtesy of the Marin County website http://www.co.marin.ca.us.)
So, I decided to take some photos of parts of it at unique angles...

This next shot shows the really cool art deco "spire":
And here's a shot of just the spire:
Then I walked across the street to the Civic Center "Lagoon"... There were tons of Canadian Geese there -- many walking around on the lawn area in front of the water:

They are so awesome when they take off and fly:

There were beautiful mallard ducks, too, all around the lagoon:
I thought this couple was cute:
But there were also lots of seagulls, pigeons and coots, too... A family was feeding them all bread crumbs and so was attracting all different species to the edge of the water:
All in all a very nice place to spend an hour or two... or three... :o)
'Til next time, all my wonderful Gather friends!
luv,
jean

I absolutely love Mallard and Geese and Swans! I love feeding them and watching them so I know how much fun you must have had taking those photographs of them gathering about to eat.
Thanks for taking us along for the ride. I really enjoyed it.
Really, Esther... It seemed to me like it was quite a photogenic structure at ANY angle! Thanks! :o)
Love his work, know almost nothing about him. An amazing talent so far ahead of his time.
Sorry to hear also about the troubles your OAOC is enduring. Hope everything works out for her. And you get your home back to yourself again...
At that time we were on the fourth floor. The place is amazing. The tops of the trees planted on the inside ground floor, reached up almost to the center skylight that runs the length of the each wing. So you could look out the office doors or windows and see greenery of tree limbs. It got a bit warm on the top floor in the summertime, even with central air running, but it was so worth it. On the ground floor they planted flowers near the base of the trees and other types of greenery.
I could walk down the wing to the 'Dome' area--which at the time housed the cafeteria--and enjoy the huge outside patio where you could sit and eat. There was a reflection pool of water in the center with a fountain. A few ducks and geese used to fly into that pool too. Some people liked that, others didn't. I loved seeing them come in and land in the pool. From the tables--I always chose one near the side--you could look out over the hills and depending upon where you sat, you could see the Lagoon area.
It was one of the most amazing place I've ever worked and one of my favorites.
