This year I decided to vary the homemade gifts I give out from the normal Gifts-in-a-Jar to Gifts-in-a-Mug. I will be making two different kinds.
I went to the Dollar Tree in Hickory yesterday and bought 30 Christmas mugs. In fact, I bought everyone they had and still had to get two that went with holiday dish sets. I also bought several boxes of holiday sandwich baggies to put my mixes in. I haven't decided if I want to give a spoon or a mini whisk (if I can find them) with the mix and mug sets.
The first mix that I will be making is a Hot Chocolate Mix and the other is a Hot Spiced Tea Mix that mom makes. I never liked it as a kid, but I think I might like it now. If I don't, I guess I will acquire the taste for it after making a huge batch of it! LOL
Here are the recipes for both. These came from my mom.
Hot Chocolate Mix
1 6-oz. can of Nestles Quick
1 8-qt. size box of Carnation non-fat dry milk
1 10- or 11-oz. jar of dry coffee creamer
1 cup powdered sugar
Mix the above ingredients together and store in a labeled container.
To make one mug of cocoa, place 4 rounded tablespoons of mix into a large mug. Add 1 cup of boiling water and stir well to dissolve. Top with marshmallows or whipped cream if desired. Makes 100 1-cup servings.
Hot Spiced Tea
2 C tang
½ C instant tea
2 C sugar
1 t. cloves
1 t. cinnamon
Mix together and store in airtight container. Put 2 or more teaspoons to a cup of hot water.
