I don't often get a chance to get away, so I am taking advantage of an offer I received in the mail for a 3 day getaway.
Harrah's sent a postcard with a special offer of $39 per night at one of three Atlantic City casinos. These seem to have been sent to participants in their 'Total Rewards' program.
The choices are Harrah's Marina, Bally's or the Showboat (Caesars has been exculded). I recently visited the casino at Harrah's and was pleasantly surprised at the results of the renovation, but mostly I was very pleased that smoking has been eliminated from the casino floor and delegated to fully enclosed rooms, as in the airports. At long last, a casino my wife and I can breathe freely in!
We booked two nights at Harrah's, arriving on Wednesday, December 24, and checking out on Friday, December 26. There are not too many places open on the evening of the 24th, so this was perfect. In addition, I took a vacation day for Friday. I am hoping that we are dismissed early from work on the 24th, as I normally work until 6PM. My ride home is about 45 minutes, then it is almost 2 hours to AC. If all goes well, with a stop for dinner, we should arrive no later than 9PM.
Following our departure on the 26th, we are heading to Washington, DC for an additional night. I am looking forward to catching the free nightly concert at the Kennedy Center, featuring Golem. I have seen them several times, and they are a fun band.
While in DC, I am hoping we can find the time to visit 2 museums. I think we will go to the Holocaust Museum (my wife has never been there) and the Museum of American History, but time will tell.

Atlantic City is no Las Vegas, especially during the winter, but when you are in the casino, who cares.
They do have a very nice indoor pool under a glass dome at Harrah's. I hope to take advantage of it.
My kids are teens, so they are staying home.
The pool is sounding nice as the temperatures drop.
I'm sure you're talking about Washington. I don't know of many museums in Atlantic City.
How am I mean to you and your kids?
How can you return the favor?
I hope you and your wife have a wonderful time.
I hope you have a GREAT time.
Hate the traffic there though.
I can do without casinos though I guess I would like to try it out once in my lifetime.
Atlantic City is not anything like Las Vegas, but Harrah's has a nice pool and it is 24 hours. Besides, there is not much else to do on Xmas eve and day.
There is absolutely nothing that gives the author of this gather post any reason for posting it.
The only interesting thing in this piece is the unintended deliverance of the fact that some people have no understanding of the holiday or its true purpose and meaning. It just demonstrates that some, like the anonymous individual who posted this crap, finds the holiday spirit in the loud, garish and gaudy environment of Atlantic City's casino's.
All that the author of this rubbish accomplishes is to prove themselves to be lacking of any taste or holiday spirit. Other than that, who the heck cares what somebody who is afraid to identify themselves is doing on a vacation chosen during Christmas?
If you choose to celebrate a holiday, that is you prerogative, however I am not a Christian, and I do not celebrate your holidays.
I am sorry that I do not warrant posting a fluff piece, although it is better than posting a piece supporting a politician who has been on the wrong side of most votes. Yes, another worthless politician who promises to shake things up while not having a clue.
I am simply taking a short vacation because I have a few days off from work (use it or lose it).
I am also sorry that you feel the need to attack me for not using my 'real' name on Gather.
I did not feel like making that long drive for just one day.
I'm really going just to get away.

In the meantime, he hates NJ and can't wait to leave. I love NJ, will live here the rest of my life, and don't like the idea of having to put up with the mess he created before he fled.
DC is off, but there is a great Native American museum in NYC. I remember going to it as a kid on a school bus.
