i'm happy to report that not only have I improved my heart health on the Mediterranean Diet but I've lost 14 lbs too. I truly hope anyone who has a family history of heart disease and/or obesity, checks out the Med diet and gives it a try. It's so good not just good for you.
The Mediterranean diet is thought to reduce your risk of heart disease. In fact, a 2007 study conducted in the United States found that both men and women who consumed a Mediterranean diet lowered their risk of death from both heart disease and cancer.
Key components of the Mediterranean diet include:
- Eating a generous amount of fruits and vegetables
- Consuming healthy fats such as olive oil and canola oil
- Eating small portions of nuts
- Drinking red wine, in moderation, for some
- Consuming very little red meat
- Eating fish on a regular basis

It's just the red meat = my hubby does love his steak!
A few years ago I made the tomato soup for Christmas dinner from the Mediterranean cookbook and surely was one of my food disasters. It was my first time meeting my mother-in-law, too. LOL
Paying it forward.
Can I replace fish with Venison? It's much better for you than beef or pork. Of course, my wife would kill me then. Sigh. guess I just stay obese.
he asked me what I was doing differently ..... when I told him about the change in diet, he said to keep it up ........ I have been eating quite a bit of this style of food for the last year and a half and the cholesterol has levelled off around 300 ......... which is VERY good for ME, but the triglycerides are still way too far up into the danger zone .... go figure
keep on spreading the good word, Mary ..... everyone needs some good info now and again ....
I'm constantly adjusting my diet to just what you're talking about.
I want you to see my reply to your kind words.
"Mary, your writing is just beautiful! Thank you so much.
And just so you know, I was, am all of those things too.
How I feel depends on how I look at my life, or let it affect me.
How I let my moments make me feel.
I choose to feel beauty, sensuality and strength."
Happy Thanksgiving.
This is great information!
