Dear Gather (About the Limited Pings)

I want my pings back.
I have had many tell me that my pings made the days brighter for them.
Gave them a reason to smile.
I want to know why you took them away.
After allowing them for awhile.
People get used to things and look for them every day.
How are we suppose to stay in touch
I hope that's not Gather mail you say.
You already have a delete button in place,
and people can choose to only allow friends to ping,
The spamming can just be ignored.
So I'm really having a hard time understanding this thing.
If ever I pinged when it wasn't wanted 
I didn't get a ping back so I stopped
I enjoyed putting a smile on the face of a friend
and I'm very unhappy that I have to stop.    
I know there are many not liking the pings
But all they have to do is not accept them
Please reconsider what you have done
Because I know for certain
I'm not the only one
That's gonna miss them

Elaine, you are one really important reason why I am still on Gather. Your pings and your friendship bring such encouragement and cheer to me. It will break my heart so see your pings disappear. I cannot understand why they made this selfish decision to limit this very important way that you serve your gather friends. Shame on them.

I never seem to remember to try and ping someone. I say "try" because they don't always seem to work for me. Anyway, if I have offended someone by not pinging back I apologize! I'm not trying to be rude. Forgive me.

I agree, My day is just not right if I don't get a ping from Elaine. I look forward to them. It is like a small way of letting someone know you are thinking about them, but maybe too busy to take the time to write! And I like receiving them and I like sending them.

I look for your ping everyday....if you don't ping me, I know you are feeling bad and need some encouragement....and your daily greeting brightens my day more than I can say.....maybe you should copy the comments from your friends that want to have pings from you and they will go back to the way it was......10 for the beautiful picture

Now that the pings are in a separate place (not in with the content notices in the feed) I don't see what the big deal is to leaving them alone.

Personally, I rarely use them - not because I don't like them or whatever, but rather because of time constraints and I'd rather drop by the content that rewards you all points than ping instead that doesn't.

I haven't had a prob with pings either but hearing everyone talk, I think they are trying to control points!!!

I tried to once today and it came back and told me that and I only ping someone when they ping me first. I am not liking this at all.
The Gather Help Desk explained why this has happened. They have limited the pings so that the spammers cannot be as annoying as they have been. They explained all in their daily article, I suggest you view that. They also ask that you contact them directly and let them know if you have trouble, they may review the restrictions is there is too much difficulty.

Why are they limited? You don't get points for pings, so they shouldn't be limited. I love your pings Elaine and you are one of the people that make me smile every day with them.

This really stinks~ =( I really enjoyed all the pings I was receiving.. Plus what are to do on Holidays now? On Halloween I went and pinged everyone on in my Halloween group and Graveyard Hours group.. *sigh* I was looking forward to Thanksgiving and Christmas pings.. Guess I'll have to do a few each day..
Um, as I suggested before, check out the Gather Help Dest article. They have been limited due to the increase in spam pings as I understand it.

NOTE: You can still send pings, and send as many of them as you want. There is simply a restriction on how many you can send over a specified period of time. Once you get the hang of it, you won't even notice.

Limiting pings to stop spammers, is sort of like getting rid of the dog to cure it of fleas isn't it, LOL.
I don't use them myself, but I have heard many that don't like the change. Although maybe it isn't as bad from what Kevin says above?

Katie already stated multiple times why the pings are being limited. Spammers were using them, so the pinging was limited to stop the spammers. And not more than two comments below that, someone is stupid enough to ask "I wonder why they stopped pinging?"

Does ANYONE post here to actually read and engage in actual conversation, or just to gather points? Seriously?

I enjoy all the pings as well. I am one who smilies when I see your pings. I hate that they are so slow now.

As for the member who mention spamming..I have gotten more spam through my in box here at Gather than any amount in my pings.
