Photo Rotation
Now you can rotate photos after you upload them to Gather. Just click one of two rotate icons on a photo in the upload window (which will appear when you mouse over the photo) to rotate it 90 degrees in either direction:

"Keep Me Signed In"
Gather has introduced a new default setting when signing into the site. When you enter your username and password, the “Keep me signed in” box is now checked by default. Gather made this change as a way of providing members with better site interaction, which includes a smoother sharing experience.
Members still have the option to not stay signed in. Just uncheck the box when logging in. Members who share a computer or who use a computer in a public place should make sure they uncheck the “Keep me signed in” box and always sign out, even if they don’t check the box, when finished their sessions on Gather. This will prevent someone else who uses the same computer and browser from visiting a site you opted to have “remember” you and gain access to your Gather account information. This warning holds true for any site you visit on a “public” computer that requires a username and password.

Thanks
Thanks for the warning. I'll be here in the morning to check it out.
How about having the post text editor window be the same size that the post will appear once it has been 'submitted'? Sometimes, I would like the text to appear just so, but the locations of the line breaks change. Normally, I'm okay with it - but sometimes...
Overall, these look like desirable changes. Yea Gather!
Thanks, Team!
Seems like my e-mail is a little faster this morning.
Wilma, I'm glad to hear your mailbox is faster this morning. This fix is very much appreciated by many members, me included!
If only the groups pages would load just as fast, then, I would be ecstatic.
The rotating photos, feature might be very interesting indeed. I wish I had known about this before I uploaded my most recent photo ten minutes ago. Oh, well.
why and what is that number?
And, my ancient computer isn't running any slower after the upgrades, that's the most important part.
Yes, there are now limits in place for the frequency of pings sent. The intent is to stop ping spam, which has affected so many members. We don't want to curtail our real members from enjoying this feature, so as we collect feedback we can make adjustments if it's proving to be too much of an impediment. Please provide us with direct feedback if you're being hindered too much.
Thanks.
Don't need the swirlie twirlie thingies to twist my pics,
my photos are already twisty enough!!! (-;
But development failed to address the true issues with the new albums - not being able to efficiently move previously uploaded photos to albums and how albums are added to groups.
Catch-22, the additional announcements may be useful to some, but probably will only serve to tick off the folks that already complain about their "feeds" being clogged up.
I'll have to play around with the editor to see if I can give you any advice on your feedback.
Improving albums will be an ongoing process. When we upgrade group functionality we hope to be able to address how albums are added to groups. Our next upgrade will be devoted to improving groups.
One way to immediately eliminate the spam-pings if you are really offended by them, is to set your pings to "Friends Only". The commercial ping-spammers have NO friends and they won't be able to ping you. The down-side to using the friends-only setting is that other Gatherites that are not yet your friend will have to find other ways to make contact with you, such as sending a friend request. Which isn't all that bad, but maybe they just wanted to test the waters, so to speak, by pinging you that they had enjoyed looking at some long-ago-posted photos or article that you no longer check for new comments.
Text alignment/justification in the post editor is paragraph based. Thus, the format option you select impacts all text in the paragraph.
You can choose different alignment options within the same post, but each set of text you want to display differently must be in a separate paragraph.
As far as I know the post/article editor is still not truly WYSIWYG. How your post appears in the editor is not always how it displays once it's published. Not only will font styles and sizes be reset, but line spacing is altered as well. Unfortunately you never know how your post will appear until you publish it.
Have a happy holiday MaryAnne Flynn
I am very disappointed and will not put any additional time into Gather. Let me know when you've fixed the problem.
I just wanted to say I am finally going through what is now under 5,400 pieces of gather new mail that is in my inbox on here. So with that in mind I have finally come to a piece of mail that was addressed to me in regards this article submission you have created to share with the gather community. Thank you for taking the time and sharing your piece with us here at gather. :o)
And I hope you have a Happy New Year... in 2009 :o)
