Gather Upgrade Announcement

Greetings Gatherers!

We will be conducting a site upgrade at 11:00 pm ET Tuesday November 18, 2008.  The site will be unavailable for approximately 5 hours. Please be sure to complete any sharing/publishing activity prior to this time.  Check back after 4:00 am ET on Wednesday to log in and start your day on Gather. 

This is a minor upgrade as far as feature changes are concerned.  You will be able to view additional notifications in Friend Updates and My Activities, justify text in your posts during the sharing process and rotate photos after you upload them.  We will also be resolving some bugs from the last few upgrades.

Be on the lookout for a full article outlining the changes that I will publish later today at the Help Desk. Please join the Support team at the Help Desk tomorrow if you have any questions about the changes.  We would love to hear your feedback at Building a Better Gather.

As always, we appreciate your patience during this upgrade and we encourage your feedback!

Will this upgrade resolve the issue that when you post several phoitos at a time and make the caption and tags for all articles in the top box it does not work that you actually have to open each box and put in all the info separately?

I haven't had that problem April. That feature has worked for me in the past.

so at the bottom of gather, i see this..."Version 13871, "Jagger"; " Does that mean there have been 13871 upgrades?? LOL!

While the upgrade is going on can the default for the ratings be set to "do not allow"? This might resolve a bit of conflict going on around her regarding the trolls and poor ratings.

Hi folks,

Tonight's upgrade is a "point release" called Jagger 1.1. There will not be major changes in functionality. We'll introduce a few minor feature changes and we'll concentrate on fixing some bugs.

Katherine W, you can turn off ratings on your content when you first publish it. Give it a try next time.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO....... Sorry but it seems every time you guys have done an upgrade lately it just has caused more headaches for everyone... I have enough stress in my life as is... Dont need it from gather also...


But in all honesty... I cant stop you... so hopefully things will get back to normal as fast as they can... thanks and good luck with making the upgrade not too problematic for everyone else...

Thanks for the info, I am having computer problems and I'm not sure if it's me or you. I was having problems posing pictures. Could be my memory is too low. Hopefully this upgrade will help me out so that iI can tell the difference. Thanks again.

Justifying text refers to the alignment of text within your post (article). As an example, after the update tonight you will see buttons similar to these on the post/article editor toolbar:

Help! I am drowning under the updates. There are always unexpected and often unwelcome side effects. I swear, it discourages me from using the site. Any chance Gather could conduct a few friendly user sessions to help us understand what's going on and how to navigate the system more effectively? I am not particularly illiterate on Web systems, but that last few upgrades have left me feeling increasing frustrated. I fear that I am not alone in this. . . .

I think perhaps MrBill thinks pageview counts are inaccurate due to the fact that you can (regularly on various articles and images) have 2 votes, 3 comments, and 0 pageviews.

But maybe I'm just missing something... good luck and hopefully we'll see each other tomorrow!
