On a recent business trip to the midwest, I pulled off the interstate to get gas and to browse the wares of a small antique shop.
I purchased a small collection of vintage postcards containing photographs of various places in the early 20th century.
One card contained a hand-colored photograph of the Wissahickon Creek at Ambler, Pennsylvania.
Ambler is a small town about twenty miles outside of Philadelphia.
Many years ago, I visited Ambler on several occassions to attend a wonderful summer concert series there.
Here is a link to the Joni Mitchell concert at the Ambler Music festival in 1974.
This concert was given a few years before I visited Ambler, but this link is one of the few listings I found in a quick internet search. I recall hearing the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra on at least one occassion in Ambler.)
It occurred to me that I had a friend on Gather who might be familiar with this communty.
Dorine H. has a great interest in the communities around Philadelphia, so I am posting this vintage postcard for her.
Here is a photograph of the Wissahickon Creek at Ambler, Pa, circa 1910.

I used to work about 4 miles from there.
Debbie, that would be great fun.
I don't believe I have ever gone in search of vintage paper in Arkansas.
Although saddend to know that, I am not surprised.
I love your postcard icon, ?????? ???,
Donna M.
"What a peaceful looking place. The card is beautiful, Peter."

Thank You, Donna and Kate.
I could not FIND the Wissahickon in Ambler on mapquest.
I hope the old creek is not buried.
Very good, Beaker, you can retain a driver's license.
There are figures, apparently wading or fishing, in the image.
It is one of the wierd things about cities -they were all constructed atop wild and beautiful countryside.
There's more at http://www.wvwa.org/
I am very glad that you shared this.
The Wissahickon remains a very lovely stream.
