A question about ratings...

I've seen a lot of posts where people are irritated about people doing a drive-by and giving them a low rating. I've noticed on a few of my own. It really doesn't matter one way or the other to me, because I know that sometimes the mouse can slip and someone can accidentally give you a lower number than they intended. However, it got me to wondering...

Do you get higher points for your article, picture or video being rated higher? Or do you get points regardless of the rating?

You get the same amount of points regardless of the rating!

I'm not sure but I think the ratings get you more views because people look at ratings before they look at pics.
I comment on everything I look at just so people know their work has been seen.
I never have checked to see if people just drive trhough my stuff,I really don't even know where to look for that info.

really bridged? i heard about gather -trolls, that just try to give you low ratings to upset you. i had a few of those.

i always give good ratings, and if i really dont like something i read or see, then i give a 9

Ratings are meaningless...and 'pointless'. Only if your content receives a high number of perfect ratings (10s) will you qualify for the "Highest Rated" community lists. This can garner you a few additional readers (maybe). However, even a single rating of '9' will immediately remove you from this list.

Ratings can also negatively impact your potential readership within the community and outside of it. Therefore, I always recommend turning off ratings for everything you publish in the community.

That last paragraph that Kevin said is definitely something to pay attention to. I don't mind leaving my ratings turned on, but if I notice that I am being "trolled" a lot, I will turn them off for a while.

i don't like the rating system. i think most people just rate to rate instead of actually reading your content, which that upsets me. i don't mind getting a "1" if it's due or if they give me a comment to explain why they did so; however, most people here don't do that so i've given up on the ratings entirely. i've been turning them off on most all of my posts.

I almost forgot! I checked after reading Kevin's comment, and it appears as though you can't go in and change whether or not you get ratings once you've posted it. Although, it could be that you can't change the ratings settings after someone has rated your article.

Just thought I'd throw that out there for anyone who was interested. :)

I read the entire article before I rate it. If someone is being really "off" or just spewing nasty stuff, I give them a lower rating, but I'm sure most people don't care if I agree with them or not, LOL!
