I totally LOVE Thanksgiving.

QUESTION: DO YOU HAVE ANY THANKSGIVING TRADITIONS THAT YOU DO EVERY YEAR WITHOUT FAIL?

Mine: Since I was a very small child, I HAVE to watch the Macy's parade while getting the dinner stuff prepared, bread broken, onions and celery chopped for the dressing, pies made.....I make my kids get up now with me at 8 am to see the parades too. LOL

Tracey- we kind of had a shift in traditions...we all use to travel 5 hours (each way) to my uncles house.....now that my sister has kids....we stay home.....so I guess our new tradition is having dinner at my sisters....we like to watch the parade as well...my mom usually goes to church that morning....so I guess they aren't really traditions! LOL but here is a comment for you anyway....

this year my best friend and her new husband are coming from Tampa to my house in Alabama. We are also hosting my daughter in law and her sister and parents. my son will not be able to be with us because he does not have Army leave until Christmas.

It is tradition to go to my mom's for dinner, my sister and I have tried in vain to have her let someone else have it and give her a greak but she insists on doing it herself. The only year she let me have Thanksgiving dinner was the year she had her stroke and had no choice. But, she was living here with me thenh so she kind of had it anyway. LOL

hi Tracey - I love that you make your kids wake up and watch the parade with you - that's a tradition that they won't forget!! Regarding your question, well, no traditions here. Things change. The hub and I used to spend all day getting things ready and then have a nice evening meal...as years went by, we started going to a Mexican restaurant near us and now this year, we don't know what we'll do - it's kind of in the air! We have two old dogs and we may just have a traditional turkey day for them. We'll see! Have a good one. Salud

Yep, every Thanksgiving after checking the Turkey for any feather quills and rinsing it off etc., I take hold of each wing and make it dance in the sink and talk to my kids, LOL. They are all adults now and think I'm nuts, but when they were little, they loved it. I do it to bug them now... the crazy guy in the kitchen.
My mother did the same thing for us when little.... and grown... ;-)

Only tradition is getting together with family on the day. As a child it was always fun with so many aunts, uncles and cousins. Now it's usually only my immediate family and sometimes my sil's children and stepchildren, so often a little boring.

We don't really have any traditions other than getting together with family. When I was young it was always at my parent's house. Now either my father in law or I cook. This year I'm doing it.

my dads family gets together the friday after Thanksgiving. Since the kids father's family got together on Thanksgiving, I used to spend the day with my mom and brother. Then my kids would join us when they were done, and we would go to my grandmother's. Since my mom has passed and my grandmother is in a senior center, I spend the day by myself until my kids come home.

The tradition with our family is to, well, break tradition! My sister-in-law started by doing a Morroccan themed meal one year, and I followed the trend the following year by roasting a pig. Every few years we throw the celebration back to mom and she cooks the 'traditional' feast (I will admit I sometimes miss the mashed potatoes and her yummy gravy!). This year it's up to my sister to create a winderful Mexican themed Thanksgiving feast! The only thing that never changes is the gathering of friends and family and A LOT of wine and beer!!

Other than getting together with family, no traditions here. When I was young to over 35, we'd get together with my fath'er's 6 siblings and their families. Then it split up into just family units. Even our menu isn't that traditional. Sometimes we have turkey and/or ham, sometimes something else.
