My apartment I hold for work has very hard water. It's in town, connected to city water, so I expect this. When I go home though the water is well water and not hard at all.
This creates a problem. I can use whatever shampoo I want at my home, and afterwards, my hair feels clean, lighter, and is actually a few shades lighter in color.
At my apartment, I've tried all the shampoos I have had at home, and afterwards, while it feels clean but not as much as at home, it also feels heavier, and is darker than normal in color.
Normally, my hair is light brown, but at my apartment it looks dark brown.
Aside from all this, at my apartment, my hair is practically unmanageable, but when I use well water, I manage it just fine.
I'm not expecting miracles here, I just want my hair to feel clean and be managable. SO maybe it is a miracle. My question is, what shampoo works well with very hard water? I've tried Sunsilk,Suave, Head & Shoulders,Selsun Blue, Herbal Essence, and several store brands, and have had minimal success to no success. The shampoo doesn't even feel like it's making a good lather like it should.
Do you have hard water? What shampoo do you use? What works best?

But, here on the West Coast, all we HAVE is hard water... VERY hard water... EVERYWHERE! and I've never had any problem whatsoever with shampoo... I LOVE hard water for showering and shampooing! I lived on the East Coast for a few years and I absolutely HATED how it never felt like the shampoo was ever rinsed out of my hair or the soap was ever completely rinsed off of my body!! YUCK! With hard water, it all rinses out... Perhaps you need a different conditioner or a thicker one or something... I have horrible problems with tangles if I don't put enough conditioner on since I bleached my hair a couple of years ago before dying it back...
I use to have a dark streak down the back of my hair from where I'd stand in the shower. LOL.
You'll want to get a malibu every 2-3 months, but the shampoo & conditioner will greatly reduce how much of the minerals are clinging on for dear life.
