I'm sure some of you are getting tired of seeing my zoo photos. I did take an awful lot of them....but I am giving you a whole tour of the Detroit Zoo.....
I waited and waited, but the Silverback Gorilla (he's a western lowland gorilla) just wouldn't turn around. The other ones were too far away for a decent photo. This is all I could get. Maybe next time I get to the zoo, I can get better photos.

Gotta love the monkeys!

Japanese macaques, also known as snow monkeys, are the most northern-ranging of all non-human primates. They live in the forests of most of the islands of the Japanese archipelago. They feed on fruits, nuts, leaves and bark. Cold winters don't phase macaques, some have taken to sitting in local hot springs to keep warm.

There is a baby snow monkey, but I wasn't able to get a good look at him. The mother had him hidden very well. My parents said they finally got to see him the last time they were there....he was riding on mom's back.
You know how some people walk the mall in the mornings or evenings....well, my parents walk the zoo instead.

Japanese macaques are currently considered a threatened species.

He knew I was taking photos of him, so he was teasing me a bit. These photos were taken through the wire stuff....took me a bit to figure it out.

It's the "I'm thinking" pose.

It's my own monkeys...LOL...and notice Angela isn't in this one either.

This particular bear is at the zoo, because that was his only option. He was found in the middle of a city, and relocated by the DNR twice. The third time he travelled back, the bear was either going to be put down or put in a zoo. The Detroit Zoo took him, which was probably for the best. He loves the crowds, according to the zoo keeper I spoke with.

I think it was getting about lunch time....

I just love the peacocks....they are such pretty birds.

The male is the peacock and the female is the peahen. The penhen doesn't have the beautiful tail.

See the little chick...isn't she cute? The zoo has a lot of peacocks roaming around, and occassionly one will escape. Growing up, I remember seeing peacocks walking down the street on more than one occasion. We lived only a few miles from the zoo.

This guy was really showing off for his mate. I think the back of the peacock is fairly neat too.
I finally found one that was willing to show me it's feathers.

He then put his feathers down and strutted away.
I hope you enjoyed the photos....I don't want to throw too many at you at once.

Up until I was around 6 my grandparents lived in Napa, CA and their neighbor had a peacock that frequently visited their property.
