I read on the news that Michelle Obama's mother would be moving into the White House with them to help with the raising of Michelle and Barack's children. Do you think this is a good idea ? I do because they will be so busy that it will be a great help to them.

There daughters are still young, so it's great to see a family member help rather than nannies and secret service, employees take care of their kids. I guess it's easier than finding her an apartment and going back and forth all day

Certainly. There will be enough new and strange things happening around those girls (from whom much will be expected), they need their grandmother. Obviously she is a good mother since she raised Michelle. And she'll be a steadying influence.
I have great memories of my patrenal grandmother.

I think it is awesome. When I went to school full-time and my husband worked full-time, we lived with my mother-in-law and it was so great to be able to concentrate in class, because I did not have to worry about the babysitter. I have the feeling that we will all be living under the same house again one day....although I always joke around that my mother in law will need her own kitchen:)

Wherever I go, my Mom would have to come too! I've never lived more than two miles away from her in all my 35 years, and I go very few days without seeing her and always talk to her at least once a day, but usually more like fifteen or more!

I think it's an excellent idea. Plus, not for nothing, Michelle's mother helps out all the time. My ex-SIL's kids go to dance class with Obama's kids (my niece, Isabella is friends with Malia) back in Chicago, and Grandma is always there. Whether it's picking the kids up or coming for performances, she's always been there (going back since Isabella started classes about 4 or 5 years ago.) I think it's a nice sense of "normalcy" for the girls.
The woman did a fine job raising her daughter so why not have grammy there instead of a nanny?The Obamas will need someone there for the girls so often, it's better it's their grandmother. My grandma took care of me often when I was young.

I do think it is a good idea to have family involved in helping to care for the kids. I would much rather see someone's Grandma taking care of them than a nanny or babysitter. It is better for the kids!
