What I got was a story about a guy who collects deer after they've been hit by cars. Really. I was both repulsed and fascinated, as this is something I could kind of see my dad doing, though I'll never admit that again :)

While thousands of state residents are getting ready to hit the woods Saturday for the opening day of firearm deer season, Richard G. Johnson Jr. already has a six-point buck on ice.
He didn't get it with bow, rifle or shotgun -- he used his telephone.
Johnson, 47, called the Saginaw County 911 Communications Center and asked dispatchers to put him on the list of people who are willing to pick up deer killed by motorists.
Johnson, who lives along South Graham (M-52), near Gratiot (M-46) in Thomas Township, said he is on disability from a work-related injury, and every bit helps.
Johnson said he got the idea in late November last year. While driving to visit his parents one morning he saw two dead does along the side of North Graham. Three miles further on, along Thomas, he saw another dead doe.
He called the police and asked whether he could get permits to keep them. He said a township officer came out and issued him "highway kill permits" for each deer.
"I got a total of 170 pounds of good meat," Johnson said. "The third doe was big. I took the head to the (state Department of Natural Resources offices in St. Charles), and they said it was about 10 years old.
"With beef at $3 a pound, I've saved hundreds of dollars by doing this."
