Greetings Folks...There's a fire behind us! We were sitting on our back patio and I could smell something burning. The wind was blowing. It's what we call Santa Ana winds. These winds are warm and the night is a beautiful one with a full moon and clear skies. We were enjoying evening cocktails when I started hearing sirens, lots of sirens for a long time.
We turned on Channel 3 news and learned that the fire is north of Mountain Drive, Montecito. I looked up from our backyard and could see a pink glow.
We don't think we are in immediate danger. The fire is raging and the winds are blowing at 50 mph but there is some distance between the flames and our house. We will evacuate if we have to and have the animal cages ready as well as our paper work and a few valuables.
The brush is very dry up in the hills. The fire is between Coyote and Cold Springs Road north of Mountain Road in case you know that area. I am praying for the wildlife who have already suffered enough. People are leaving the area, thankfully. I just hope they can put this one out quickly. Thank you for reading this and thank you for your good thoughts. Salud

Stay safe.
and yes, the wildlife in fires are sadly innocent victims....
cheers,gayle
~~Salud back at you.

(((Hugs)))
We used to watch the lines of fires creep up the side of the San Bernadino mountains. (Lived in The Valley for, like, two years. Fer sure.)
Take care.
love you both.
Anyway, piled them into the truck along with my laptop, camera gear, our paperwork and believe me that was all. We got to higher ground.
We checked on the neighbor who is 99 and told the two women caring for her to call a cab and get her to the San Marcos High School shelter - they did. Of course, I worried about them all night. We left and went to Tri-County Produce parking lot and watched the fire -
I'm back home now and we'll see what will happen this afternoon. There's lots of smoke around so I'm glad my old neighbor left and I'm waiting to hear word from her caregivers. My other 95 year old neighbor left as well - her kids evacuated to her house thinking it was safe but she had already left - bless her heart - those old gals have a lot of grit.
It's kind of eerie here now - and I have many friends who live in the hills where the fire burned. It's so sad and yes, tragic for those who worked hard to build and furnish their homes so yes, my heart goes out to them and their families...and of course, my heart breaks for all the wildlife already stressed from a former fire.
Natural disasters occur everywhere to all kinds of ecosystems. The best we can do is leave. Now, we're waiting on the winds. I will stay on for a while as the winds will not get bad until later this afternoon. We are on alert.
I want to thank each one of you for your thoughts, prayers, positive vibes and letting me know you were worried about me. It means the world to me. I feel blessed to have such a wonderful Gather family.
Blessings to you all. Salud
Donna, bless your heart - if it got bad, we'd go to our place in Eureka, Nevada. We have too many old animals to impose on anyone but I do thank you very very much. Salud
I have to say that these firefighters are wonderful. Anyone who is a fire fighter is a very special person - I am truly grateful for them and for all the personnel who are helping here - it is going to be a big job to clean up - and yes, I do feel sorry for the many horses up in the canyons and all the little birds, raccoons, all kinds of wildlife - I will have lots of water for them. Salud
Take care, Mariana and best wishes winging their way down south.
I know we have sent some firefighters and equipment from here to help out.
It sounds as though you have given a lot of thought to your contingency plans.
Hoping and praying for the best, for all of God's creatures.
Thank you J, Ginny, my dear Krista - bless your heart, Peter and all of you for your generous comments and concern. Salud
Blessings, my friend.

We can still smell smoke but the amazing fire fighters have done a wonderful job of putting out the fires - I am truly grateful for all the help and generosity of the folks in California and surrounding states. I am no stranger to these natural disasters and believe me they can happen to anyone at anytime and anyplace - count your blessings and be grateful for everyone and everything and help the wildlife out there - it's dwindling. My Boyfriends (Nate) family house burned down last night. It was one of the first houses built there, his dad built it with his own hands, all adobe brick, it was a fantastic house. It had a beautiful wood dance floor that overlooked the city. SO sad, Nate lost all his art and clothing. anyway we got evacuated too, but were okay are you okay?
This is so sad. Salud
thank you Lynn - yes, we evacuated - it was mandatory but we came right back - thank you so much for your thoughts!
William, it was but it's gone now, I hope! Salud
Take care.
I'm so glad to see you and your household are fine.
We have we done to the land. Sweet heavens.
Blessings girlfriend.
This is so hard on Californians, and it happens year after year. Good luck to all!
Thanks Toni and I agree.
Thank you so much JoAnn, Wilma and Sharon
Thank you Jim!! I hope your brother's step daughte ris ok.
Thanks Melinda - I appreciate that very much! Salud
Again, I'm glad that you continue to be safe.
Mona - yes, the fire has moved on and that's sad - it's very dry here plus the Santa Ana winds.
I so appreciate your love and support and help!
Tanya - I do believe me have to care for those in need - I've heard folks say well some people care more for animals than people - I love animals and I have enough love for animals and people - love doesn't have a limit and animals really need our help - and anything we can do, we should do - starting with our own homes, neighborhoods and expanding from there. Little things make a difference because the ecosystem is so balanced and once it is thrown off, little ones run to safety.
Thanks folks and don't forget to look at the video. Salud
God Bless you and keep you and yours. You are in our prayerful thoughts.

but am so glad--adding you to my prayers that you continue to be safe in those dry mountains.

I hate what the fires do to people's dreams and treasures, and even more what it does to the wildlife. We are OK down here on the border - so far.
