Do you ever wish your child DIDN'T know something you taught them?

Oh yes, I did just ask that! LOL!  We have always taught our children the basics... the ABC's, how to count, their colors, etc.  But we also taught them our phone number, address, town we live in, our "real" first names (not mommy and daddy), etc.  I think those things are important for children to know.

Yesterday afternoon the kids and I ran into some people at the store that we know but hadn't seen in quite some time.  She has a daughter a little younger than Stephy and they were in dance class together for a few months.  Although she drives me insane and her daughter is a little maniac with terrible manners, we stopped to talk to them for a few minutes.

Well, when we were walking away, she called out and asked if she could have our phone number so we can get the kids together this summer.  ACK!  Just as i started to give her our HOME phone number, my daughter spoke up and gave her my CELL phone number! OMG, I totally did not want her to have that number, so I quickly said --- oh no, use this number instead!

We don't give out our cell phone to many people for various reasons, as I'm sure most of you can relate!  That was a time when i wish my daughter didn't know our phone number! LOL!  Or atleast hadn't heard the question!

and here I thought you were going to tell us that your daughter said you didn't want her to call you!(because she drives you insane) or repeated a word you didn't want used in public. lol. You got off easy!! ha.

When my daughter was three, I explained to her when to call 911. I told her in an emergency situation only. One day while cooking supper the phone rang & it was the 911 dispatcher who told me they got a call from my house. I told her it was impossible. She asked if anyone else was home and I realized my daughter was upstairs playing where there is another phone. I rushed up to her & asked her if she called 911. She calmly replied, "yes, I had a mergency." I asked what was the emergency & she said, "I was bored and had no one to play toys with me." I had always talked to my kids with adult language, but I did not explain to her what an emergency was. The dispatcher was kind thank goodness, but I learned that even my very intelligent three year old, needed an explanation on what big words mean.

My mother taught my daughter way too much about my older brother's bad choices in his life though she was too young to understand she is afraid of him to this day... She doesn't even remember him, but she's scared of him and he never did anything that would affect her or cause her to think he'd harm her... The last time I saw him she told him he was an evil man and that he should leave...

I rarely give my cell number out just because I don't want to be bombarded by people bothering me about trivial matters. Most of my co-workers do not have my cell number for that reason.

I agree with Mary, and Kelly - LOL! One of my aunts is a bit of a gossiper and has a bad habit of saying one thing to your face and something totally different to someone else. When she told one of our other family members how beautiful she looked on her wedding day, my cousin (her daughter) informed the bride-to-be that "Momma thinks your white dress is 'sterical."

lol, I've been at the other end of it too. I had bleached my hair blond for the longest time, so when I tried to dye it auburn, it bleached back out into a pinkish color within a matter of days. I worked at a daycare, so I wasn't too worried about walking around looking like a clown until I fixed it lol. BUT, all my coworkers gushed about how good it looked, until one of our 5 year olds walked up to me, did a double take, and said (in a very animated way, which made it even funnier), "Miss Sandra...WHAT COLOR is YOUR HAIR?? Is it purple? Red? Pink? UGH!"

I had to laugh - it's not like I didn't KNOW it was a horrid color, and the look on my co-worker's face was great.

ahhh! I don't give my cell phone out either. One time I had to call my grandmother on the cell phone and didn't think about her having caller id. So every time she couldn't get ahold of me on my house phone she would call the cell phone. And she did it all the time! We are on Jason's mom's plan and don't pay her anything, but we have an agreement that we don't use many minutes. We only use it to call during weekends and to other ATT users so it is free. And every so often we use it if we have to call someone long distance since we don't have that on our house phone. But she kept calling so I finally told her that we didn't have the phone anymore. Most people know why I won't answer so they rarely call the cell phone.
But you're right- it is a good thing for the kids to know!!
My kids know too many things from me that I sometimes wish they didn't know.
How funny and sad all at the same time.

One time I was in the grocery store waiting to check out. I have always taught my kids it was impolite to talk about people. When my teenager who was maybe 4 or 5 at the time asked why the lady in front of us legs were so fat. He said they weren't just fat but huge. I tried to shush him up by saying we don't talk about peopel behind their backs. But he got even louder and said Hey lady hey lady turn around I am not allowed to talk to your back. I want to know why your legs are so fat. I just grabbed him by his arm and walked out the store as he was truggling to get that ladies attention. I was so embarassed I couldn't even look at the lady.

My kids are four-legged, so I haven't had the joy of having a child blurt out something that I didn't want shared. I have, however, had the joy of dealing with other people's kids-- and the joy of having to issue a disclaimer ("No, really this is not my child.").

LOL!! And here I thought you were gonna tell us something bad. There are all teenage boys around for our daughter to play with and there is one in particular that has been known to get on my last nerve. I have always said that "jacka**" is not a bad word but when my daughter repeated it after I called the annoying teenage nephew it (to his face). I have decided that it is indeed something I do not want my daughter to say. The boys thought it was so funny that they taught her to say it if they said "What is (insert nephew's name)?" To which she would promptly inform everyone the he was a Jacka**
