I have medium size bags per child for Christmas gifts.
For ex. So far, I have small winter hats and mittens/gloves. More ideas would be bookmarks (because they do not take up much room), but unfortunately, none of these children are old enough for reading age.
What are small items I can put in each bag?
Children age ranges are; 6 months to 6 years.
Ages around Christmas:
Sunshine - (niece) - 6 months
Gracee - (my daughter) - 11 months
Adelyn - (niece) - 3 years old
Savannah - 6 years old

Check craft stores in addition to the dollar stores. Michaels and AC Moore's both have stocking stuffer aisles and end caps with great toys, puzzles and crafts that are small and in-expensive.
For the older two (3 and 6 years) try bath stuff - I used to suggest this all the time at Bath and Body works. Little girls want to be "just like mommy" and will be thrilled if they get a mini set of bath gels or lotions that look like what mom uses.
I also think that Linda T is on the right track - skip the candy and get some better for you food. Check the grocery store - you might be surprised what you find in individual packages. When I was little, I got exotic fruit - pommegranites and star fruits are exciting when they're not what you usually see on the table.
How about baking or craft supplies and a promise to help them with the project. Just to prove that the little ones can cook - Check your local library for Mollie Katzen's "Salad people" - it's a cookbook for pre-schoolers!
