Gifts in jar are both fugal and well accepted. I like to keep my homemade mixes in jars on my pantry shelf for myself as well. This recipe is for an individual mix. You can store it in a jar or ziploc bag. Instructions are given at the end. If you give as a gift, remember to add instructions. Yummy!
Hush Puppy Mix
1 1/2 cups yellow corn meal
3/4 cups all-purpose flour
3 Tbsp. dried minced onion
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. sugar
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. ground red pepper
In a large bowl, combine all ingredients and mix well. Store in a resealable plastic bag or jar. Makes 2 1/4 cups mix.
To serve: In a deep skillet, 1 1/2 inches of vegetable oil to 350 degrees. In a medium bowl, combine mix with 1 1/2 cups buttermilk and 1 beaten egg. Stir until well blended. Drop mixture by spoonfuls into hot oil. Fry until golden brown and thoroughly cooked through. Drain on paper towels and serve.

I do some of these "on a jar" gifts.........
my favorite though is chocolate chips, and I always use one of my favorite quotes on the label......
I am going to make a few of your mixes to add to my gift baskets (teas, mugs, tea kettles, short bread, jams, honey). The mixes will make a wonderful addition. ;-)
