I have been looking at what happened during the past election. Some of the mistakes that were done on the part of the Republicans and what they could have done that they did not. What did the Democrats do right? What should be done to fix both parties to make them more middle of the road or at least more like they should be?
The main reason that I believe the Republicans lost the election, both the presidential one and those that were running for congress. Is that Bush is very unpopular; his War on Terror has become a war on those that do not agree with him. The people of America stood by and allowed this to happen. I also want to point out that congress VOTED to allow this.
I do agree that the United States should have a very strong presents in the Middle East, not to protect the oil industry, but to assure a balance of power in the region. With morons like "I am Nut Job" in Iran and "I am the Great and Powerful Hussein and can I hide in your sewer drain?" in power that whole region is in trouble. Mind you that we could have cared less about the Middle East before 1948. The UN and not us took land from the Arabs and setup the State of Israel. We have been there to aid them and they have done a great job at defending themselves as well. Egypt did not recognize them until after the six day war and Jimmy Carter making the set down and talk. I do not believe that Egypt would have even talked to them, unless they had won that war. Yes Jimmy Carter was very good at opening up the peace talks, but a butt kicking played a major part too.
Second point the Republicans lost was the use of negative ads. I was part of election in which I took the ‘high road' well my opposite took to name calling and bashing. He won by a land slide. I lost and have looked back at that ‘mistake' and have always been proud of the fact that I choose to face the issues, not his problems. {Side note here: He lost the next election by a land slide too. YES!!!! LOL!} Negative ads only go so far, at some point they will turn voters off. Do not tell me why I should not vote for someone, but why I SHOULD vote for you. Personally I do not care what party they are with, but did they or will they vote the issues that are ones I want. We send them to congress to vote as OUR representatives, our voice in Washington. If you did this for your state, then I believe that you will do this for everyone. If a senator is truly doing the thing that he was sent to do, then he is a good employee of those that sent him there, but if he is looking out for himself, then vote him out!
What did the Dems do right? Simple they got out and voted! They made a strong push to get people on the rolls. Granted I do not agree with the ACORN crap and to be honest I highly doubt that Obama does either. ACORN did more to hurt him than help him. The fraud that they cause will cost the states millions to fix. Here in Ohio we now have people on the rolls with an address of: A Park Bench or A Cardboard Box. I have no idea how the Postal Service is to deliver mail to such a person, but it is legal.
Lastly, I wish that the parties would go back to being what they were. The GOP was a stronger voice against Government sticking it nose in others business. They have not done this since Nixon. The Dems need to start working on being for the little guy. They have not done this since they have done this since JFK. I know that Johnson declared War on Poverty, but if you look at this you will see it started with Kennedy and Johnson was just finishing it. Personally I do not think that Johnson ever had a clue about the poor and being a rich land owner in Texas, I doubt he was for the rights of blacks. This is just my opinion, but I believe it was why he did not seek re-election.
If history plays out like it has in the past, Obama will win re-election in 2012. Then in 2016 the votes will go back to GOP and that the plans of the Dems were failed and need to be corrected. Americans have always swung back and forth and sadly always will until the parties start doing things that make sense. During the Clinton years he was disgrace to the US, today he is considered one of the best men to have served this office in years. He was just a fallen human being, with fallen pants......Sorry I had to include that here!
Both parties have spent to much time fight along party lines to get anything done. The time for Congress to act like they have a clue is now. The Dems have the seats to make a great improvement in America, so now let's do it. As a member of the GOP I am going to be watching you. I have told one US Senator that I am going to stand by him, both as person of reason and with him during his next election. The other was told DO NOT count on my vote next time. Sen. Brown is a Dem, but he has been helping me a lot lately with a problem. Twice his office has called me, I have over 15 emails from them and one time he called me personally to discuss the issue. The other man for Ohio, well he is a member of the GOP, the only thing I have EVER gotten from him was a form letter, stating that he got my email and would look into it.....that was six months ago! Sorry George, but do not look for this GOP member to even read you re-election mail.
May God Bless the new Congress and the new President! I will be watching.

The "conservatives" always blame losses on "not being conservative' enough. I hope they embrace this notion for at least a few more election cycles, forgetting that it was the middle of the road and independent voters that brought home the win for Obama
For some reason, and I have a few clues as to why, McCain did not push hard enough. It wasn't until the third debate where I had to say "there you are! I've been wondering where you've been!" He really needed to handle the first and second debate just like he handled the third. Palin I think is incredible! But the John McCain I knew of held back for too long. :(
Wm H you are right too about taking a more conservative stance. The majority of America is anything but conservative. I just wish that both parties would look back at histroy, study it closer and learn from the mistakes of the past.
Some stated the other day that we need a third party. I have no idea how that could work with our current electoral college, but there needs to be something done to wake up the Party Bosses. Maybe we could start one on here and call the party of Common Sense. Instead of a convention we have a GATHERing......LOL!
I think Obama and his team played the racist card and so many dont question, what did he do with his white side? I guess he threw it away and chose to only be black....So he is not our first black president... He is mixed, whether people want to admit it or not....
I think some of the negative ads werent even put out there until two days before election.. Such as Obama's remarks about bankrupting the coal industry... The LA Times refusing to release the tapes of Obama at the same party with the terrorist who was putting down Israel and the USA....
If I were McCain, I would of pointed out and brought it up any time that I could about Obamas so called connections...
Anyone that Sharpton, Jackson, Wright and Farakhon endorses is enough to make me vote for the opposite...Obama has got to racist, you just dont have this many friendsthat are racist and not be... then look at his better than the next person wife... She is just snobby looking and acting to me....
Before its over with, he will have all his buddies in the White House, his mommie in law is already moving into the White House with them.... It must be nice being able to live off of the taxpayers because your son in law is president...
