Where is Pelosi's middle ground?

I think an even better question would be "WHAT is Pelosi's middle ground??"

She needs to define what she personally means by "middle"......

I also think her statement has much more to do with the mid-term elections in 2010 than it has anything to do with actually "advising" the President-Elect......

Hmm...Bill Clinton is one well known centrist politician. John McCain was slightly to the right of center until the recent campaign. Colin Powell is a centrist.

By 1950s standards, Obama is a centrist. Times change.

McCain has never been in the middle just look up the keeting 5, McCain has always been a standard neocon taking big lobby money.

Pelosi acts like a GOP plant. 2010 will be more GOP loses.

Linda you need to look at some real history and you will find that the only reason McCain was not imprisoned with the rest of his gang is because of his daddies political influence. McCain is a crooked as the rest of the GOP.

Nancy Pelosi comes from a district that is a little further left than the rest of the country. She did not win by courting these voters. She won by playing to the middle. The country is in the middle as well. It is not leaning towards the right or the left. It is interested in fiscal responsibility and less government intrusion into its lives. Many people on the right and on the left seem to think that they have won over the populace, but they have not. Most people do not care about abortion as much as the right wants to think they do. Most people do not care about an unfettered market as much as the right wants to think they do. The left makes the same mistake. The left assumes that people are interested in radical change when what they want is good jobs and the opportunity to build a decent life for themselves. They do not want to infringe on the rights and privacy of others. But, they also want to be left alone themselves. Pelosi has a keen awareness of this and usually follows that mantra. She is a whipping girl for the right, but it doesn't play well in middle America.

Joe, the country is in the middle because it's ignorant. Which is their prerogative. They have their kid's soccer and hockey games, and they watch Survivor and American Idol on their big screet tv, and they don't have a clue about things like: where their tax money goes, why much of the world hates us, or how the government has been driving them off the cliff of financial ruin. The few things that prompt them to form an opinion involve simplistic concepts that don't apply to the more complex realities and tidy little slogans that mold public opinion regardless of how the substance of it affects the masses.

You are right, Robert. Most of the people do not stay informed. They are generally motivated by their own pocketbooks. It is ignorant, but we are not in Europe. We are in the US. Sometimes, I think that I might have enjoyed living in the France over the years. Everyone young and old demonstrates when the government goes corporate. But, in America, we are much freer and enjoy a better lifestyle in the area of property rights and personal wealth. We could learn from France about taking care of those who are less fortunate and about health care. I think that things will improve in this country with Obama because he offers us a more realistic approach to the issues. He isn't stuck in the bosom of corporate America.

I think you're right about most of that Joe. And don't get me wrong, if someone chooses to be ignorant, or focus their attention elsewhere that's a valid choice. The problem though is that, in our democratic republic we (majority) elect candidates based on misconception and candidate statements that appeal to the broadest, or target segment that will earn the most votes. Also, voters elect those who work against their particular interests, like all of the red state farmers who elected Republicans in 00, so the Republicans could enable big-agri to collude to lower prices until the farmers were knocked out of business.

I'd like to live in France too, but don't tell anyone or they might take away your freedom fries.

Actually, he was formally admonished by the senate for his "poor judgement," which seems to be a reoccuring statement about his throughout his adult life. Later, he proved that he'd learned nothing, as he continued to wallow in the filth of seedy corporate lobbyists, including hiring the key lobbyists for Freddie Mac to run his campaign, no less. Up until just a couple months ago, Rick Davis was receiving $15,000 per month from that company, and had pulled down a cool $2 million as their lobbyists overall. Funny you didn't mention that, hmmmm?

McCain is not quite as bad as Bush but that's because he lost ground when he joined the Navy and was a prisoner of war. Bush was free to desert the National Guard and pursue a lucrative in theft 101.

McCain was let off because of who his father was not because he was innocent. America has never had a justice system built on innocence or guilt and probably never will. Money talks or your guilty.
