Just a quickie healthy U note-
Dr. Rosenfeld, preeminent celebrity physician, talked about C Reactive Protein on TV this AM. Hopefully that will get more people asking to have the test.
I've written about how a year ago I asked my cardiologist to include a C Reactive Protein test in my routine blood test. It was not well known at the time. The result of the first test found my CRP very high. My cardiologist was concerned, but didn't know what could be done to lower it. He had heard that it was becoming known as a predictor of possible heart problem, but the information was scarce.
My primary care physician shrugged her shoulders and said, 'well with your heart disease, I'm not surprised:. She didn't know that it was suspected that a high CRP could lead to heart disease and stroke.
Six months later, I again requested the CRP test and this time it was lowered by half. How did that happen if my cardiologist and primary care Dr. didn't know what to do?
(sorry, it's not a quickie note. This is too important to skim over)
I posted pertinent information on my Quick Tips 4 U blog at
http://quicktips4u.blogspot.com/
This morning I heard another Dr. talk about this on TV, referring to it as an important issue, along with cholesterol lowering drugs.
He said that even if your cholesterol level is satisfactory, your C reactive protein level could be high.

It quotes several studies and information about making changes if yours is high.
Paying it forward
I asked my doctor to run these tests 2 years ago. He seemed pretty vague about the usefulness but did so as I am a Registered Nurse. My levels were high normal and he advised me to take folic acid, aspirin and Vit. B12. He has not repeated the tests although he did run a B12 to make sure my blood level for that was not too high. I will have them all repeated for my next visit in Dec.
Prevention is the best medicine. Routine check-ups can prevent a lot of trouble later on. High blood pressure, diabetes, cancers, all have a higher cure rate when caught early. Erica, please don't neglect your health because you don't want insurance or medicine. There are many highly qualified health providers, including nurse practioners and physician assistants, as well as MD's and DO's.
