I have decided that my gift to all my children, siblings, aunts, uncles and cousins this year will be a pea-green candle. Sounds weird, right? The label for this candle will be dove shaped, and will only contain the name "Whirled Peas." I think I'll do it in WordArt, and shape the name like the globe, and put it over a pix of the planet. The ribbon around the top of the candle will be hmmmm, gold I think. Open to suggestions. I thought about using prayer flag ribbon, but I'd probably have to make that at home, too. Unless someone knows of a source for prayer flag ribbon? Let me know, if you do, please.
Now, here's my issue...I thought the scent "sweet pea" would be okay... Then, I'm thinking perhaps there is a scent out there that already represents peace? What scent should this candle carry that most represents Peace? Anyone?
The grandbabies will get home-made coloring books uplifting and envisioning world peace. I'm putting my father on as the main artist, since his drawing skills are ever so much better than mine.
Seriously looking for feedback regarding the scent thing--not my forte! And any ideas regarding binding the coloring books (or painting books?)
Blessings on those that work for peace!
Wilka

I want to give you a great big old hug over the election the other night! I wondered where you were when the final results came out.
Are you considering selling any of these? If so, please let me know!
I loved the idea of reinforcing and implanting the message.
In addition, tell them that this election and the work you did is your gift to them. That's how I feel about the little bit I did.
Bless you hun.
So, I guess I'm not much help, is my point. Yay, me. Sorry, Wilka -- let's call this, "Me stopping by and leaving some PantsLoveā¢."
But, being 52 and deskbound (read slightly out of shape?) and after working the polls till about 8:15, I then went home and plunged my feet into hot water, wrapped hot towels around my knees, and climbed into the internet to feast on the incoming data. In the left hand, cuervo shots (lined up--you know, instead of aspirin???) in the right hand, the mouse, busily clicking from CNN, to the guardian, to MSNBC, to the Obama page...
I like the idea of sage...and lemongrass is always good, think I could blend them? Is one scent considered more manly? I gots me lotsa boys on the list, I raised mine right, but there's others...you know how it is?
Blessed be.

Envision Whirled Peas
Leslie: I have patchoulli sticks and oils for around the house. Love it. Also, flashin' back to the hippie thing. It makes me feel good. MUST be something in it? Good memories, maybe? I remember a party where some gal brought patchoulli scented brownies--needless to say, I passed on those... (((smiles.)))
Blessings to you both!

They already know that. I raised me up a passle of rebels, some thinkers and some thinking rebels. They were working the campaign too. Don't know how it happened, but I couldn't be more proud of how they turned out. We practices by coloring outside the lines all our lives.
...I'm working on my rainbow icon, but I just can't give up my bluebird of happiness yet. I'm so content, excited, and at peace with the nation. It's been a while, and I'm basking in the glow of national intelligence and affection. I know we didn't reach all of our goals, state based, but I think we'll be more open to thinking legislature in the near future.
Goddess Blessings on your curly head!

Peace On.

Smiling at you from St. Louis, Ms. St. Cranky Pants!

Don't know if you have access to Cottonwood buds where you are but they're smell in the very early spring (Feb--March) is the whisper of peace in the making for me. from it's sticky buds we make the Balm of Gilead. My youngest daughter always brings in the wind blown branches to make her Easter Tree, snow everywhere, many weeks before warmth or outside green. With in a few hours the house is filled with the airy sweet scent and days later, new baby greens. If you are near cottonwood in midrange climate, the sappy buds might be ready for Christmas.
Good on ya, homemade rocks!
We're probably not talking about the same plant though...
I wonder if there is a commercial (hippie) place to pick up the scent? It's too late for me to catch the budding before xmas, of course.
I was thinking along the lines, too, of the Gold Canyon candle scent: Cotton.
MJ...my head tells me not to ask...but I will anyway. To which buds might you be referring?
Nancy, Lavender is one of my favs. I have several of my own, for relaxation. Does it represent peace, too?
HEART-felt Blessings to you.
Peace out!

The "Buds" from the great Paper or Black Cottonwoods (birch family buds) are the still tightly closed tips on the branches left from the previous seasons growth. You want to gather them when its still quite cold/ pre sap rise. Loved your picture of the tribe of six traipsing out to the farm. What ever the scent (lavender is my second favorite. Sweet Dreams) it's a wonderful project. And so glad Dad can be a part of it. Stirs my embers for small gift ideas to create with my Elder Ma.
Wood Smoke (for a family evening around the fire or woodstove)
Home-Baked Bread (for that soul-reassurance all humans can relate to)
Lavender (for inner peace and outer calm)
I think I'd use the lavender in the candle - like, actually, pieces of dried lavender in the beeswax, and maybe a pea-green strip of wax that whirls up the length of the candle. That's the one in MY mind - I'll be eager to see the one in YOUR mind! (c:*
Lisa, I was thinking of doing the plastic "teeth" binding--like a comb, is that what you're talking about? We have one of those machines at work that line up all the little teeth... We used to use them for sales and training booklet bindings. Also, then the kids can take out a picture if they want to. Great idea on the binding. Thanks... My next questions to you would be "paper stock?" I was thinking of thicker paper, like in a good quality sketch book. And it wouldn't have to be 8-1/2 x 11. Although that would work best in my printer here at home.
Thanks Lisa, for loaning me your know how.

Five year old fingers managed that just fine.
I did some afterward (sans glitter) with a snowflake pattern made from gold and white tissue paper, with blue around the top for sky...looked grand with the candle lit.
Have fun with your momma. She might enjoy making stuff for the local shelter kids. They always need love, especially around the holiday times. Special kid size and doll size blankets are a big hit, along with either a store bought or hand made doll. Soft materials, and don't use buttons or those glue on google eyes.
Makes us all feel wunnerful.
And, Yes, I'm thinking lavender and mint. It is also one of my kids fav scents. My house will smell so good pre-holiday.
Blessings--all great ideas.
love it Wilka!
