my aunt went in for a routine hernia surgery on the fourth of november. now she has had this surgery before so she knew what to expect.
what she didn't know was that the doctor made a huge mistake during surgery and cut something he was not supposed to dealing with her intestines.
today she has had more than three surgeries to repair the damage that was done during the time she was stitched up healing. she is on dialysis to get rid of the stuff that leaked into her body and she has had a minor heart attack because of the leakage and now her heart has been weakened and she still has several more surgeries to go through for repairing purposes.
this is a great example to me of what happens when we are forced to not be able to hold doctors, nurses or anyone practicing in the medical field responsible for the mistakes they make. if there are no consequences why would you be careful?
needless to say my first reaction was fury why because my aunt is now needlessly far more messed up than she was when she went in there and this is actually not the first time that a family member has been put in danger because of a mistake by a medical doctor.
people wonder why I want nothing to do with western medicine with some of the experiences i have witnessed. i fear for my life as I become older and more reliant on the medical field for my health.
Yes I both realize and understand that people are human and are going to make mistakes and the mistake is really not my point but the responsibility.
the medical bills for this are going to be huge and I really do not think the hospital is going to eat the cost because their doctor messed up but it would be a good way to start being responsible for the mistake.
its really not like this family could afford to have all of this done and to be in the hospital this long.
I really think that if people have to sign a waiver of liability to be seen at a hospital or clinic that the facility should be responsible for the cost of any clean up they have to do on mistakes made by their staff.
My anger and pain for my aunt has called for me to take action so I suppose this is my action and contribution to the hope for change where I believe serious change needs to come.
I am sure I am not alone in my experience so please feel free to share any you may have experienced yourself and any of you ever in this situation you have my understanding, support and sympathy. Those of you currently in it you have the same as I just explained with prayer as well.

I agree with that 100%! My boyfriend's sister was in the hospital for something and ended up being there 3 days longer than she was supposed to be because someone did or didn't do something they were supposed to.
Sorry to hear about your aunt. best wishes for her.
xuong, thanks so much. I appreciate your support.
heather, sometimes it just seems perilous i know. i have heard of that as well the awful infections and being sent home to early. i know insurance companies play a part in some of those decisions as well. it just seems so scary to go in to get something fixed to just have to worry about coming out in much worse shape.
on insurance companies, my dad was in the hospital and when his insurance ran out the hospital was going to just send him home to keep from paying out for him when he needed to go to a facility for rehabilitation. we were saved by the county.
The hospital where they rushed my one uncle some years ago made a mistake and he didn't live. It started as a nose bleed. This same place is attached to a clinic. They've made numerous mistakes on my kids and me.
Very irritating to say the least.
