The Ladies Aid (Bethany Lutheran Church Women) at the church in Thompson, Iowa where my husband is the pastor, hosted a lefsa making demonstration this week.

Joan and Karen, who are sisters, did a great job showing us how to make this Norwegian delicacy... a flat, crepe / tortilla-like wonder made with mashed potatoes, flour, etc.

Anything involving sisters and flour and a rolling pin has to have a little humor involved, and Joan and Karen kept us laughing as they went about their work.

Everyone had an opinion on which is the "right" way to make lefsa,

And when I tried to roll out a piece, I very quickly discovered that there really is a knack to doing it just right!

Afterwards, they not only let us all have a taste (buttered, with sugar sprinkled on)...
They auctioned off more lefsa to raise money for two new stoves in the kitchen at church.

I was the winner of 4 pieces, one of which I ate, one of which my husband ate. I gave the other two pieces to my Mom and Dad, which I think was a very selfless act on my part! (If I had tasted it before I decided to share, I might not have been so generous! It was GOOD!)

Making lefsa... one very fun, very tasty way to share Christ's love... and the traditions we share...

fun group
congrats on winning the 4 pieces and sharing ; )
I love church basement ladies. They're a dedicated, talented group who hold together a piece of America. They're the unsung heroes ...
My daughter eats it with the butter & sprinkled sugar. Hubby eats it with mashed potatoes spread inside.
I ate at the Scandinavian Bakery in Minnesota before (where I am from) and they make sandwiches/wraps with lefse - now those are so good!
Thanks for posting to Cook it up Big!
