This is what the Republican, Pat Robertson, founder of the Christian Coalition had to say November 5, on Larry King Live.

"Larry, as you know, I ran for President. I must say, this is the most amazing campaign that I think we've seen in our life time or maybe in this century. Obama is absolutely brilliant. I would like to make a prediction. He can be one of the great Presidents of the United States, if he doesn't get pulled too far off the center and gets over into some of the things the American people don't want. But, if he governs the way he said he is going to, as I say, he has the smarts and the charisma to pull this nation together and be a simply outstanding President."

Now, while I have always held the position with Robinson that he -- as a man of the cloth -- has no business in politics -- at least he embraces Philippians 4:8, which states,
"Finally, brethren,
whatsoever things are true,
whatsoever things are honest,
whatsoever things are just,
whatsoever things are pure,
whatsoever things are lovely,
whatsoever things are of good report;
if there be any virtue,
and if there be any praise,
think on these things."

Thanks for posting this - living outside the US at the moment I would not have seen it.
We abhor people treating others poorly because of a label. We must not fall into that same trap and treat people case by case, individual by individual. Most republicans want the best for this country, too. Let us not forget it. The vocal nastiness we've heard the past week is really only a small proportion of them.
I think the country does best when neither extreme is practiced.
I feel Obama will be more to center than McCain would have been.
I agree with everything Pat Robertson says.
Yes we can! (win the election),
Yes we DID! (win the election),
Yes we WILL! (restore this country).
lady, your Scriptural libel does nothing for one who seeks the Truth.
Wow. That is exactly what they were saying after Jimmy Carter won in 1976. Will obama go the way of Carter and actually implement his socialist promises or will he ditch change and move to the center? This will be interesting......
Be afraid.......Be VERY afraid..........
I like Obama and want him to succeed. But Joe please tell me. On what accomplishment did he successfully lead?
Or something will have gone wacky the day you admit your stereotypes are childish and have always made you look like a fool.
If you'd actually heard the comment instead of reading it, the emphasis would be more clear & you would understand what Mr. Robertson was TRYING to say.
That being said, I don't like Mr. Robertson, and think that he is extremist in his theology (yes, me whom everyone seems to think is a fundamentalist ).

I am much happier about us having been "Bush-ed around" than I would have been if our nation had gotten "Kerry-ed away!"
Brian T., you must be either very young or not very good in history class. Look up "the Great Depression". In fact, several previous recessions had far worse unemployment than we have now. People are so used to our prosperity that 6.5% sounds high to them. It is the highest since 1994 under Clinton (6.6), but that only counts as a record to those who don't remember the 1982-1983 recession. That was a blot on Reagan, but to be fair to both he and Clinton unemployment was skyrocketing under both previous administrations (Carter and George H. W. Bush).
I think what happened is that his old repertoire is not selling well any more (there's a lot of competition out there), so he decided to try something new. He noticed the turning tides, and that a lot of Christians support Obama.
He "sounded" sincere, but as I review, and recall -- based on Aniko's comment, which is true -- the past, I only hope that the seeming sincerity is that -- sincere.
Also, the personality was pretty much the usual "Pat Robertson" -- very laid back, and matter-of-factly, with little to no specific intonations, except here, and this is where I take exception with the official transcript, for he really said this, and like this:
" . . .he has the smarts and the charisma to pull this nation together and be a simply OUTSTANDING president."
I don't fault the transcribers for failing to insert "simply" into the text; it's easy to overlook, and don't take my word for it. They may very well air the program one more time tonight.
The point is that -- whether you like or dislike Pat Robertson -- he is a highly respected, and vocal force in the Christian community, and the Republican Party, whether many Republicans want to admit that or not.
Also, whether he is sincere or not, his words are indicating an effort to reach out, and bridge a divide, which is something that is critically needed in a country that is obviously so split at this time.
Isaac Newton said that "we build too many walls and not enough bridges." Robertson may have very well decided to re-enforce the wall currently existing in this country. Instead he -- throught the spirit of this gesture -- in my mind, echoed the great words of one of his predecessors, who told a Russian leader,
"Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!"
That being said, sincere or not, I applaud, and thank him for the gesture.
Still working on that Inauguration. That is going to be a tough one, Kerrell -- not the dress, but the Ball.
Gerace is in hiding, but I know he has influence.
I suggest you watch the interview for yourself!

Pat Robertson comments on Obama, and Palin: the Larry King Live Video
Maybe this is what I should have done in the first place.
Everyone appreciates the fact that Sarah Palin is no longer a short term worry for America; and for you posting this to Sarah Palin Watch click here
That's the kind of answer I have come to expect. A non-answer.
Thank you for the Feature. My pleasure, I'm humbled, and honoured.

Aniko was so detailed in her accurate, historical analysis of Robertson, which is why I am so delighted about his ringing endorsement of our 44th President, Barack Obama.

Talk about WISDOM!!! What you said is so wise, that it bears repeating, and so then,
if you do not mind, I shall repeat what you said.
REPEAT:
"Let's all pray that everything works out well, and not take issue with every thing someone said, everyone will have their own opinion, I trust he will make a good president, if he keeps his promises , but many just can't , they simply try, but can't live up to everything promised, I 'm hoping this will change for this new President."
~~Elsie Duggan (and I do so agree!)
for your comments, and opinions.
That was an unfortunate incident. I hope that Pat has grown since then; don't you?
However, in an act of humility it is better we all work together to bind the wounds and repair the damage done to this country by right-wing zealots. The Dark Side has been defeated, but always remember the Dark Side will be back, because they never sleep.
Lady, I admire your desire for unity but some people serve only their self interest.
Our elected president will be used by many simply to gain some publicity and robertson is getting it right now.
There is part of me that sees through people's conniving mind and twisted reality.
They may not be really bad people but they are fakes...and not to be trusted.
He is one of them.
