I just don't know the words for my thoughts on Joe the Plumber. Ridiculous comes to mind. Out of touch. Hypocrite. Opportunist......

He is right, back then it wasn't abused like it is now. Too many people are on welfare now and it is sickening. God forbid they go out, get a job, and get rid of their "entitled" attitude. I know that some people don't abuse the welfare system, but so many people do, that now is the time to buckle down and reform that system.

I have come across a few too many staunch male Republicans who complain about welfare [I complain about it] and then attempt to GET IT! Puke!

I used to have a problem with him being used as a tool, but now I see that he has chosen to use this as a tool to further his own "wealth redistribution." From a policy standpoint he clearly has no clue what he is talking about. Some of the things he says are not only bizarre but so illogical that it's hard to understand why he misses the disconnect. So why is he still doing interviews? Why does he choose to put himself out there? Because he wants his book deal, his movie deal, his singing career. He has every right to those things, especially since there are many people making a lot of money based on very little actual talent. But at some point the hypocrisy just becomes comical. But then I suppose one of the great things about this country is that every one of us has a right to go out and make a fool of ourselves if we want. Best wishes Joe.

There is definitely some serious brain damage here represented by Joe's inability to actually form a cohesive sentence.

The problem is the country has been run for the past 8 years by a guy who has the very same problem with words and we just escaped having to listen to a female VP who has the same inability to actually use words in any meaningful way.

Do you think this is a genetic flaw that runs right through the right wing of the Republican party? I have yet to hear a Democrat with this speech impediment.

Joe was just a McCain plant that went bad, he is also a hypocrite because welfare is a socialist program, maybe a necessary one because all people need help at times but when you use a system and then complain about it you are making yourself a hypocrite. The exorbitant taxes have been spent, Joe The Plumber, the Republicans have just left it to he Democrats to raise the taxes to pay for it. This guy is such a loser.

I still respect John McCain as an American, but the campaign that this man ran with Sarah Palin and Joe the Plumber, and the attacks on Obama ... I am just glad we are timing out the Republicans for a while. Not sure it will do any good, but the GOP needs to rethink their existence.

Joe is just an emblem of the inauthenticity of McCain's campaign. Another Republican who thinks the rules should be different for him.

one good thing came out of all this. Joe's back taxes of $1200 got paid. I'm not sure if he paid it himself, or if the Republican National Committee paid it for him, but it did finally get paid.

Joe the Plumber is a great example of what happens when an ordinary person gets selected as a symbol of somebody's advertising campaign without any investigation. Considering the proportion of sainthood in the general population, I'm not too surprised to see how Joe turned out. The McCain campaign was foolish to make him their Strategy of the Week.

In the back of my mind I wonder if we all have not been rope-a-doped into thinking we are so smart, while the powers that be have just jumped from the formerly useful Republican party to the newly useful Democratic party using Palin and Joe as decoys.

We all have to work together to make sure we are not being jerked off yet again!

Welfare is a social program that benefits all of us. Our lifestyle wouldn't be great if women and children were forced onto the streets to starve. In this country, we feed the hungry. That makes it possible for all of us to thrive. In countries where people are left to starve there is more crime and less affluence. It is very important to have a social safety net.

Joe the Plumber seems to think that everyone owes him a living. He doesn't even pay his own taxes. Only an idiot thinks that he can earn $40,000 and not pay taxes. This country is too great for that kind of regressive thinking. I hate selfishness.

I think welfare is needed, and don't consider it to be something bad. There are people that take advantage of it, BUT there's no way to completely police it. And a lot of the people that take advantage of it, would find another (illegal) way to get the money if it was something pulled from them anyway. Not all of them would, but a lot of them.

I also don't agree with the fact that the richest people pay such a higher percentage of taxes either, though. My family is comfortable, but not "rich." Even with two kids and the the exemptions and credits that come with them, we pay plenty in taxes. I don't have a problem with what I currently pay, but when my family starts making more money, I don't think it's fair that our percentage we pay in will go up so much. It doesn't seem fair at all that some people actually get paid by the government in form of a tax refund (that is well above and beyond the small amount they paid in), while others end up paying thousands in. I don't think a person should be able to get back more than they pay in, period. Ok, so if you're poor, maybe you should get back everything you paid in, but never more.

There is signifigant welfare abuse. The program itself is fine, if used the way Joe and his family are alleged to have. The problem is when teenagers say "I can't wait 'til I turn 18, and get my own welfare card." There is a signifigant part of the US gov't. apparatus that seeks to keep people on the government's "dependent" roster.

If Joe received welfare, it's a good thing that he no longer needs it. He even shows how corrupt government is, that his records were leaked to the media. I guess the GOP isn't the only one capable of using the state's apparatus to "sqash" any opposition. That is a much more important issue than Joe's criticism of Obama.

He accused the progressive income tax as being socialistic, perhaps he would have been better served if he had lived and worked before unions gave us safe work places, pensions, reasonable wages, decent hours, vacation, healthcare etc. I suspect Joe would have fared a lot worse than in the present day. And tax delinquent, Joe the Plumber, conveniently forgets that it is the very people he supports and, perhaps, his own shortcomings that has made him a tax delinquent. Remember Bush inherited a half trillion from bad boy Clinton, and since he was, is, and always will be a spoiled brat, squandered not only that inheritance, none of which he earned, he proceeded to put us in the deepest debt. So deep that if you added up all the debts of every President since Washington the Bush debt far surpasses their combined total.

It seems Joe and his foster parents, the McCains did not mind using the name "Joe the Plumber interminably. I suspect that if McCain had received as many votes as the number of times he invoked the name Joe the Plumber, he might have made the race closer.

The Republican Party chose to make Joe an icon of their ideology, and Joe cheerfully took the job. Joe's ignorance rivals that of Sarah Palin. Even if one accepts the view that a progressive tax system is somehow "socialistic" (which means we've been living in a "socialist" state for quite a long time now), democracy and socialism are not mutually exclusive categories, and becoming more "socialistic" does not make a society less "democratic". But the Republican party has had great success conflating unrelated concepts, and Joe is proof that it sometimes works.

I used to have better arguments with my friends when I was ten years old, than what you see and hear in the public discourse nowadays. People actually KNEW stuff then. That's because public school students were actually required to LEARN their subjects. A complete overhaul of our public education system should a priority item on President Obama's agenda. No additional money need be spent; we already spend more per capita, on education than any other country in the world, and are getting precious little in return. What a pleasure it'll be to have a true scholar with a brilliant mind as our Chief Executive, the polar opposite of the callow, unelected ignoramus currently impersonating our president!

What I am more interested and find more relevant is: would president elect 0bama pass a security check for the FBI or CIA, and would he qualify to run for POTUS under the qualifications for POTUS candidates in the Constiturion. Specifically could he produce a certifyable birth certificate to prove he is a natural born American citizen? He has not done this to date.
