I hope Gather has fun judging all the entries -- there are a lot of awesome ones here but I just wish the results had turned out a little differently like a lot of you.
As we all know, there were lots & lots of wonderful & worthy photos that unfortunately didn't get enough views to make it to the top 5. That's the nature of the beast in a contest like this. UGH!!!!
That's really all I have to say about that because I've talked about this before and it's done no good. I wish everyone lots of luck and I can't wait to see who wins the photo shoot -- what an awesome prize for someone!!! Thank you.
I guess I didn't read the contest info well enough because I definitely expected there to be more names with 25 qualifying slots, but I am happy to see several of my connections on that list.
Need to go check out the shots that I haven't already viewed.

That's the power (fun?) of lots of different opinions all crammed up in one spot. :o)
Now that I'm back from the DMV getting my driver's license replaced I'm off to check out the rest of the photos on this list that I may have missed earlier.
I love costumes Faith. I'm usually too busy taking pictures of everything else to play around with stuff for myself. I wish I had all my costume make ups from when I did theater. Plus there's a lot of work involved in doing make up. . . then the actual photo. I'm not that dedicated most days hehe. And photoshop has really made me more lazy when it comes to make up. I have learned to start with a base image and then play around with it.
I really like that wig though, but let me tell you it was heck (pun! hehe) getting all of my hair in it. I need a hair cut like bad, but don't want to cut it because I want to keep it long for the Renaissance Fair next year. But it is a whole year away. I'd feel naked if i got my real hair cut that short though. Last time I cut a lot off was in 2002 and I cut almost 20 inches off for locks of love. I cried, my stylist cried, my grandma cried LOL I don't know if I could do that again.
Just curious. Howcome the same costumes appear in multiple categories as finalists? Were there not wnough other entries?
You could tag the same entry/photo with multiple categories if the "fit" into it!
However, it is a shame that this contest is yet another example of unfair practices which disenfranchise other potentially eligible entries/members. The fact that there are not 5 unique members as finalists in each category is a travesty.

I am NOT trying to make anyone feel bad or guilty about this because one of my closest friends whom I talk to every stinkin' day is one of them! It's just that contests like this have got to stop being run like this!!!
Really, it wouldn't be hard at all for Gather to change it to 5 unique members in each category. All they would need to do is give those spots to the members who were next in line with views.
I'm positive that has even been mentioned in previous contests here on Gather! All we can do is follow the rules and have fun!

Your rules state that The Contest entry period runs from 9:00 AM ET October 29, 2008 This was entered 9 hours before the contest started.
Thus this photo should be eliminated and another worthy entry allowed
I got stuck with a Gather Glitch that wouldn't post the tags. They kept disappearing even though I loaded them up several times last week. This wasn't dealt with until the 6th even though I reported it to Gather immediately upon seeing the problem. After reading some of the other articles I see I wasn't alone. That's unfortunate, I guess, for us.
I bet you were the ONLY person to notice! That should knock that photo out of the "most creative" and "milk mustache" categories since it was in the top 5 on both of those categories! It clearly wasn't posted within the contest period!

FYI, Pam stated that photos uploaded prior to the contest were still eligible. However, only views obtained during the entry period would be counted.
I found this on Pam's contest announcement post................................................
"Regarding the "previously shared" images... we have a report that will filter out any views associated with those photos prior to 10/29/08 @ 9am ET. So, although they may appear to have lots of views (likely from last Halloween) they will not be counted when calculating the "top viewed" photos for this contest."

I did have one question though, just something that I found puzzling. I was under the assumption that all entries had to be of people or pets in costume, after all it was a Halloween costume contest and it stated "Just share pictures of you and your family decked out in your Halloween duds and enter the appropriate category:"
There is more than one entry where costumes are not involved, we have several fall family activity photos that I would have entered had the rules stated something other than you in your Halloween duds.
I don't want to come off as sounding like I am complaining or griping as I entered for fun with no expectation of making it into the finalist spots, but it just seems like there are so many things that were not considered with this contest.
as it stands, it's kinda like a high school prom king/queen election where only the popular kids get a running chance of winning.
i couldn't find a pic of my favorite costume though, which totally stinks, but hey, there is always next year.

We appreciate everyone’s feedback and questions over the past few days regarding some of the entries chosen as finalists. In the official rules it states “(b) Submissions (hereafter the "Submissions") must be an original photo of its subject(s) in Halloween costumes. Submissions must not violate copyright laws; must contain properly cited material, if applicable; and must be original material. ” We will contact the members affected and announce a revised list of finalists later this morning. Therefore – two of the photos had to be disqualified from the contest.

The article was announced on Gather! Thus, it being announced to everyone at the same time! Granted some people might not have seen it that same day but it was there for all to view!
I didn't get a message in my Gather inbox until a few days after the contest had already started. And it was sent as a group email, I think.
