The OB/GYN has did testing and among his testing; amnio-fluid, blood work, ultrasounds, measurements and comparisons, he states that this child will approximately be 6 1/2 pounds by next week. I asked him how much pregnant women gain in a week approximately and he told me 1 ounce per day; so that is equivalent to half a pound a week.
Within the last few weeks, the ultrasounds estimated a birth weight of 4-5 lbs, but by the 2700 grams or whichever the ultrasound stated, he estimated 5 lbs, but by next week, he is telling me the baby will weigh around 6 1/2 pounds by the equivalent of 3000 grams.
Many have stated 5-7 lbs is a healthy birth weight, so if my child came out weighing 5 to 6 1/2 lbs, can she be considered healthy? What is your view? Do you think 5 to 6 1/2 pounds is considered preemie or the healthy range? I will be 37 weeks next week for my scheduled C-section on 11/14/2008 and my daughter is Breech and so far considered a high-risk pregnancy.
Who knows, she may surprise us all and weigh more, but I am nervous and worried, that's all. What mother wouldn't be? :)

She'll be perfectly healthy. Any weight over 5 lbs. is just fine.
Anything over 6lbs should be good. And remember that the drs can only estimate the birth weight, and it can be off by several ounces. Those machines can't actually measure the correct weight, they estimate it by babies measurements, and really they can't always even correctly measure everything.
But the last several weeks is when baby puts on most of his/her weight so don't worry you should be fine.
I would not worry. If you can hold out to full term that is great. If not and your baby is at 6 1/2 pounds, the baby should do just fine.
if u r full term the baby can not be a preemie
In my opinion, a baby having a weight of 6lbs is a bit too low. But, they can survive because of the wonderful technology the doctors have these days.
Also, about the weight, sounds good in my opinion, just something to keep in mind. Not sure if it has anything to do with whether you will be breastfeeding, but, general rule of thumb is that babies generally lose about 10% of their bodyweight in the first few days, but by two weeks old at the outset should be back to birth weight ifnot exceeded it on their way to growing. Check with your pediatrition though for mile markers specific to your little one.
Congrats! And best wishes to you! =)
Michelle, you should stop worrying,,...everything should work out just fine....
good luck on Friday ! ! !
My poor Mother really went thought alot to bring me into this world!
good luck friday... and btw.. i was put on bed rest for week 35 and 36 of my pregnancy.. what we had the last few months of my pregnancy thought were brackston hicks were actually contractions i was having... so hence the bed rest for those 2 weeks and after it was safe to finally deliver baby... after 37 weeks.. they lifted the bed rest...
Good luck.. I just love babies..
My kids were all born within a week of their due dates and they were all in the high 7s and low 8s for weight. I have a friend who is tiny and had two tiny babies- both were full term but they were only about 5 lbs each. I have another friend who had 6 lb babies full term.
So many babies, so many different weights. If the baby is born around the due date he/she will be fine, even if a little light.
