I think McCain would have won hands down
I know many Republican women who loathed Palin - I still wonder who they ended up voting for?
As a Louisiana resident, I knew Obama would not do very well in this state and the color of his skin was an issue with many voters as it was in Miss, Ala., Geo, Tenn., etc. etc. Oddly enough, in numerous Western states, with smaller minority populations, Obama did very well. There is food for thought. In 2000, I strongly supported McCain, but he seemed like a different person in this election. I had zero problems with Palin being female, but didn't trust her to separate church and state.
And Im sure some women said," Im voting for McCain in support of us women sticking together.".
It doesnt make it right, but i'm sure some of the votes went that way.
