A couple of days ago, I felt the need to share an experience which happened to me over 20 years ago. At the time, I thought it odd that I would want to write about it now, when I am so busy, but I did it anyway, publishing it here as my most recent article (aside from this one) entitled "I Hate Mosquitos... A Mosquito Almost Killed Me Once." The process took several hours, as I had to stop several times to take care of everyday issues at home, but at the end of it, I felt better for having written it out.
Yesterday, I stopped at a close friend's house and visited for awhile. During our conversation, I learned that her son had not gotten to go to his visitation with her ex-husband because the ex's current wife had become ill and been taken to the hospital... because of a mosquito bite!
For 24 years, I really haven't spent a lot of time thinking about my Encephalitis experience. The subject really doesn't come up much in my life... it was such a rare ocurrance in my area that I have never met anyone else to which it has happened. It has changed the way I think of bug bites and how I prepare for summers, and especially for camping... it has also given me a great appreciation for spiders, martins, and bats, all of whom eat mosquitos... but none of those things involve directly dwelling on the experience itself.
Monday, I spent several hours thinking about it. Tuesday, I learned that person I met but to whom I am not closely connected may be going through the same thing... and I learned about it because on Monday it affected someone who is like family to me.
I find the coincidence a bit strange.
