America has spoken: C-H-A-N-G-E!
"To everything, there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven."
~~Ecclesiastes 3:1
..."It won't be easy ... it won't be quick, but you and I know that it is time to come together and change this country," Obama said.

Here is the
email that awaited me even as Barack Obama delivered his speech:
"nalita --
I'm about to head to Grant Park to talk to everyone gathered there, but I wanted to write to you first.
We just made history.
And I don't want you to forget how we did it.
You made history every single day during this campaign -- every day you knocked on doors, made a donation, or talked to your family, friends, and neighbors about why you believe it's time for change.
I want to thank all of you who gave your time, talent, and passion to this campaign.
We have a lot of work to do to get our country back on track, and I'll be in touch soon about what comes next.
But I want to be very clear about one thing...
All of this happened because of you.
Thank you,
Barack"

President-elect Obama's message to those Ameicans who
did not support his candidacy was this:
"I hear your voices. I need your help, and I will be your President, too."

"democracy, liberty, opportunity, and unyielding hope"

Repeat. Senator Obama stated in his email --
"We have a lot of work to do to get our country back on track, and I'll be in touch soon about what comes next."
In other words, People: indeed, you elected a PRESIDENT. He is not taking
time for a honeymoon period. There is no time for a "honeymoon".
You elected him to do a job; he plans to DO the job.
Issue Number One -- America's mandate -- the Economy.

Now, what are YOU going to do?
Because, all along, President-elect Obama has been saying,
"I need your help."
"We_____________. "(you fill in the blank).
"Let us be the generation to ____________."(You fill in the blank.)

President-elect Obama said that this campaign was not about him.
He said this victory was YOUR victory.
He said it was about YOU, the vehicle for your hopes, and your dreams.
Vehicles need drivers.
YOU ARE THE DRIVER.
This is YOUR country.

You need to decide just where . . . YOU . . .wish to go.

Then YOU need to turn the page.
It's also known as, "WE THE PEOPLE".

It is called personal responsibility.
It's also called progressive, creative CHANGE.
Yes YOU can.
Yes WE can.

And speaking of "We the People."
America is not just about "Joe the Plumbers".
THIS is the REAL America:

This is an email I received from a Gatherer:
"Just wanted to share what occurred with my 5 yr old grandson today. I want to make sure my grandkids understand the significance of yesterday's election. When I picked him up today, I asked him if he knew who our new President was.
Without any hesitation, he replied, "Barack Obama and we have his poster in our class." This school is probably 95-98% white.
I asked if he knew who the vice president was. After some thought, he said, "McCain." Well, one out of two isn't bad!
Thanks for all the work you did to help make this dream come true!"

You did a remarkable job including all of Nalita Media.
Today I drove by what used to be the most predjuced part of Minnesota and saw men, women and children holding Obama posters over the bridge to rally support before polls closed.
Well, he won here in Minnesota (as you know). He had an obviously amazing turn out back home in Illinois, I did not drive home because I knew highways would be backed up getting in tonight.
So, I guess the new favorite name of for baby boy's will be Barack.

I had the opportunity to attend a rally here, to see Obama with Bill Clinton last night in Kissimmee, FL. I ended up being quite sick, and did not get to go. I am SO disappointed. I watched most of it on television, as well as Obama's television spot.
I was proud to see 35,000 people did show up for the rally... including my next-door neighbors.

I'm getting to you, Julia!
Did you sleep at all? Maybe in a few months!
It is DONE and now for the fun before the work begins to make OUR USA a stand tall nation again! Can you believe we have lived to see this day!?
Sunny day, sweeping the clouds away! On my way to where the air is SWEET!

Let's parteeeeeeee
I lived from 1983 to 2006 in Virginia... which turned blue, after a loonnnng wait for me. My husband and I both call Virginia home. We were waiting, waiting, hoping it would turn blue. Then my son called me and said, "Virginia did it!"
I have lived in Florida since 2006... we waited anxiously on that one, too. While I was on the phone with my son, cheering over Virginia, my sister called from Montana to tell me "Thank you!" because she had just seen Florida turn blue...
The relief is indescribable. It is my husband's birthday today and we are on top of the world. I gave him a movie and a Beatles CD but I think all I would have needed to do for his birthday was say, "Yes, we CAN!"
I was unable to do much... donated what I could and wouldn't shut up about my politics... my sister, son, aunt, and numerous friends campaigned for him non-stop for the past few weeks, though. My husband changed a few minds as well.
This is OUR victory. Mr. Obama is MY president. I have never felt this way before, but then again, I never felt such HOPE until now.
"The future's so bright, I gotta wear shades!"
OOOOOOOOBAMA!!!!
Never in my life have I seen little children jumping up and down in utter delight, just to see something with name "Obama" on it, or to hear people talking about him.
It's really uncanny, how wherever you go, everyone was excited about Obama.
I just had no idea. There is no way that Gather begins to reflect the spirit of what people feel for this great man!
Florida absolutely shocked me. I would have never believed it. I still don't believe it, um . . .CNN said nearly all of Florida delivered, except for a Panhandle area.
Virginia? I did have a feeling they would come through, and they did. I'm telling you, Julie, that you do not fool around with other people's cha ching!
"Hey! You messin' wi' my money, Cous??? Them is fightin' words."
Julie, I do not care what colour you are. People are the same everywhere; the colour of money in this country is GRRRREEEEEN!!!
Did you sleep at all? Maybe in a few months!//
Are you kidding? The Bush nightmare is on its way out. I slept like a baby.
They are people I would choose to be friends with. In a trillion years, I would never have been able to say, "John and Sarah" any more than I could have said "George and Dick."
I will still refer to them both as President Obama and VP Biden, out of respect. But they still feel like people I would be honored and proud to call my friends.
I was not really surprised by Virginia, except that I knew some people there who, though they liked Obama's politics, would not vote for him specifically because of race. Ignorant people, like a man I divorced in 1996 who once dated and really "loved" a woman in college until he found out her father was black and he dumped her. When I asked him why, he acted like it was me who was obtuse. (The question here is how he fooled me into dating him for three years and then marrying him... but that's another story.)
I guess I was nervous that there were more of those people than I was aware of, and I could not breathe a sigh of relief until it was official.
As for Florida... I saw the early voting lines and was encouraged by that. People standing in line in the rain, laughing instead of complaining, because this was their chance to be heard. They would not have done so, just to keep in place the status quo. As nearly everyone I know here agreed with my politics, it would have been difficult for me to accept a defeat here. (Though I do live in a county which went for McCain... despite my best efforts.)
I do have a rogue brother who likes Obama but votes only based on the NRA's recommendations. Like, gun control is the ONLY issue which matters..? He's a hunter and doesn't want to lose that right. At the potential expense of his children's futures...
I should write my own article! I won't, but I should. Thanks for letting me take up space here, Neee... I am so grateful to you and most everyone here for what they have done along the way. I am so grateful to feel we now have a better future.
Let it flow as much as you wish. There is so much hurt, and healing that needs to occur in this country.
As I was reading your last comment, it just occurred to me WHY the voter turnout was so great; I question nearly everything, and that was one question I had about this election.
I believe turnout was so great (Chris Rock was the first one to say it), because people saw somebody that reminded them of themselves -- a regular, everyday "Joe". It is as Chris Rock stated, he is going with the man who has one house, because that man knows if he loses that one house he has nothing. The man with 6 or 7 houses still has a place to sleep at night -- the other 5 or 6 houses. Put another way: one is out of touch with the everyday, working people.
I'm not speaking of colour here; I am referring more about socioeconomic status and class.
Obama is someone that "gets it", and is not one of the select few -- that 1% or 5% of the upper crust.
In other words, don't sleep too soundly, not just yet.
I am wishing the best comes out of this for you and your family; hope is a powerful force.
I actually was "living" just outside of Chicago when Obama was elected to the US Senate. I remember seeing him on Oprah and thinking, "Now, this is a politician I could believe in." But when he threw his hat in the ring, I had my doubts about whether it was the right time to do it. Not that we didn't need him, but that I was afraid he would fail because he was so unknown, and then he would not be able to be taken seriously later, when not so unknown.
I've never been so glad to be wrong.
"we know that government cannot do everything for us"...
Aside from that I want to express how impressed I am with the Obama campaign and the inspiration he has brought to so many like Nalita. I admire conviction and hard work for something you believe in. Obama is my president and I am in no way bitter over the decision the American people made. I am proud of my fellow American, President Obama, to have come to this point from where he came. It is an amazing story. God Bless America and God Bless President Obama!
I saw so many smiling faces yesterday; my mother wept when it was announced and called a family friend who is a civil rights activist here in Jackson...they were crying, too. Today at work (a Republican stronghold), there were people smiling who have worn strained expressions for months....it was a HAPPY day!
