Carolyn O’Neil, a registered dietitian on Gather, recently helped assess your grocery lists and made several helpful recommendations. She’s a strong proponent of eating healthy for less. She recommends always having milk in your diet as at about 25 cents per 8 ounce glass, on a gallon basis, milk offers more nutrients per penny than almost any other beverage option in the supermarket!
Carolyn will be joining us to discuss eating healthy while on a budget and looking for your suggestions too! Have a question for Carolyn but can’t make the chat? Leave it in the comment field below. If you can make it, we’ll see you here tomorrow at 3pm ET for a great chat that you’re sure to benefit from! This is an open forum for you to relax, sit back, and talk with other hard working moms. I will still try to read it, thought...I can always use help at the grocery store.
And I'd much rather have them drinking milk all day instead of juice. We limit juice to a glass a day and they usually choose milk over juice anyways! :)
That makes ME a HAPPY MOM!!!!
My kids both went through that stage as well! I just fed them WHATEVER they would eat because I thought that it was better than not eating at all! :)
And for everyone...when you put milk on your grocery list a good way to figure out how much to buy is to figure that each family members needs three cups of milk a day. That's not a lot but it's just the right amount to get all of the good nutrition they need. So a cup in cereal, a cup at lunch or dinner and then with a snack at bedtime. Hey, a cup of milk is great in soups too. Another money saving food to put on your list.
We but 2% milk! Darigold!
When my kids were little I fed them whole milk but after they turned 3, switched them to 2% milk! Hubby won't drink anything other than 2%. The kids LOVE any kind of milk! Including Soy and Organic!
Also fruit variety yogurts will provide some fruit nutrients and you can buy the store brands.
That's a great value, really!!!
Milk is usually on sale for $2.50 some weeks even $1.99 ;)
Shannon, SAME HERE!
wont that be better than chips or cookies for my snacks?
What are your thoughts?
