Every 4 years, there is a significant call to get out the vote. We are challenged to support the candidates who we feel will best help our nation succeed. Why then is election day NOT a national holiday? Every 4 years, working men and women and our youth in high school and college are faced with a dilemma, finding the opportunity to get off work/school in order to vote. We have national holidays like Columbus Day for a man who didn't even discover our country (He discovered the West Indies). I think it's shameful that we disenfranchise our youth/hardworking citizens by making them choose either to work to succeed/put food on the table or to go vote. Those who are in the most dire need of representation do not generally have the chance to be heard.
So what can be done? I propose that you contact your United States Representatives and ask them to support true democracy and support a bill that would make the Presidential Election Day a national holiday every 4 years. You can make this a reality by going to the link below and sending a message to your representatives:

Thank you.

Our goal is to help you further your exposure and to support other gather members.
There are plenty of opportunities for a person to vote if they want to. If they're disenfranchised then they do it to themselves.
What will come next and national holiday because today is the only Tuesday (or whatever day it happens to be) this week? Maybe our time would be better spent finding more reasons to WORK and stay competitive in the world market.
I think there should be a huger voter change.
what does it matter these elections are rigged no matter who wins, its all a conspiracy
Mooch
Also, we all should not relax and assume that the election is over and that our vote doesn't really count. If we support someone for president, then we must VOTE for him. This is not going to be a landslide for anyone! This is a very tight race, and only a few votes in some crucial states may determine who will be in the white house for the next four years.
Vote your mind, heart and soul. Vote your conscience. Vote your wallet. But let's all get up from our keyboards and go out and vote!
i.e. those who work and have to work long hours.
I'd like to see a 24- or 30-hour election "day," ending at the same moment nationwide, for example,
Polls Open: 3 pm ET (noon PT) Monday
Polls Close: 9 pm ET (6 pm PT) Tuesday
