"Go back to sleep," my husband suggested as he opened and then slammed the window shut. "It's just an effing woodpecker."
Candidly, I was relieved it wasn't an aneurysm.
I haven't been myself lately. Every night I have the same terrifying nightmare. I am duck taped to a lawn chair, my mouth stuffed with a gag and my laptop just out of reach. As if that isn't terrifying enough, I am also the sole witness to a Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh reunion. They kiss on the lips (with tongue), do a mutual reach around and gloat that Obama's lead magically disappeared overnight.
Of course I woke up and couldn't go back to sleep. Twenty minutes later, as I sucked my homemade latte through a straw, my husband said, "Drink up, Sweetie, check your email and then we've got work to do."
I knew he was right. After all, Cheney and Bush never sleep. Why would McCain and his neo-con freaks be any different? If it hadn't been for the woodpecker I am sure I would have heard those shredding machines in the other Washington. Yessireee, the regulations being cast aside in the last three months will take us years to find and undo, but none of that matters today.
Yes, somebody has to pay, but let's get our man in there first. So in that vein, what the heck are you doing reading on Gather? Get to work. We've got 32 hours to still make a difference.
Go Obama/Biden 2008!

An entertaining commentary! That would indeed, be a nightmare.
To me, Douglas is sounding a little like he ate some sour grapes. I'd rather read David Brock's articles.
Go Obama!
I've resigned that it may very wlell happen, but that doesn't mean I like it.

Make every vote count tomorrow!
I was delighted in one comment I read on Gather today that said after reading all the info on Gather, the person writing said he did some research and decided with the help of Gather articles Obama would get his vote. YEA!
Marilyn the Magnificent S., that is great news!
Woodpecker is the power animal for ONENESS - Woodpecker, in spirit, is busy pecking holes in all our institutions, to increase circulation of LoveTruthCreativity........

But her fears are well founded as they relate to Obama and his administration. The difference is that different rights and freedoms will be attacked by Obama than were stolen by Bush. One the concerns of mine is Obama's record on Second Amendment issues. Another concern are possible First Amendment violations by Obama's campaign managers. I have other concerns that relate to the move towards expanded social programs.
By the way...I am not a McCain supporter. I believe that we should keep both eyes open, not just the eye that is focused on those with whom we disagree.
Of course if McCain gets in we will very soon be experiencing National Socialism under some other name. The only way to protect ourselves is to rotate the rascals in office from time to time so that no one group gets too strong a grip. No matter who we put in office will become a rascal after a time. :-(
Of course the solution to this problem is described in www.nopom.info if you'd rather have but economic security and freedom at the same time.
Other than the menace guns enable with criminal actions against all members of society, women and their children seem to be the most plentiful victims of sloppy oversight on gun control. Check out the murder statistics for domestic violence in this country and then tell me if guns are a bit too easy to get for violent men. Personally, I think if a man (or woman) exhibits he/she is violent, he/she should be barred from owning a gun until proven rehabilitated. As we fail to protect women or punish domestic violence properly, women remain victims.
On balancing power, the greatest impediment to chicanery and worse in public office is a diligent, invested public who holds our representatives accountable for their behavior. All I can say is it is not too late to impeach George Bush or Dick Cheney and tomorrow morning I hope somebody has the whoozies to start it. There are no new beginnings when such thievery has been allowed to flourish and so many of our rights have been sullied or 'disappeared'.
Uh oh, this is starting to sound like a rant.
These persons are currently prohibited from legally purchasing a firearm.

I don't know if firearms are "a bit too easy to get for violent men"...but I can tell you that the legality of those with a violent history LAWFULLY obtaining a firearm is clearly defined.
In other words...the laws are in place that prohibit firearm ownership to violent persons. The issue should be the stringent enforcement of those laws and an a concerted effort to incarcerate those who do not conform to the standards of socially acceptable and lawful behavior.
Uh oh, this is starting to sound like a rant. "
Rant on Elizabeth...rant on.
Brain dead people... interesting. The name calling never ends. Sad. Actually pathetic, but get it off your chest. Nobody cares anymore.
I can't even get excited about what you said because you lost the war for hearts and minds. My candidate, starting January 20th, will try to undo the crap Bush (with McCain's help) created and fix or replace what he has destroyed. Your bitterness will only hurt you. Oh, and whatever beliefs you have, you can keep them. I get the feeling I wouldn't want them.
The only fly in the ointment was when I tried to find Nina Simone's karaoke version (the same key) of her hit 'Feeling Good' and after trekking to the music store I bought my other 75 CDs from found they no longer carry them. Sigh... I didn't realize karaoke music sales are now all done on the Internet. :)
Still, I will be singing and dancing again this evening. I suspected my daughter was pregnant with her 2nd... and she confirmed it yesterday too! Life is SO grand!
