Have you ever thought about it? Do you think that your vote really does make a difference?
I remember when I was a kid, don't remember what election though, but my parents were on their way to vote. We were all in the car driving to the place to vote in our town and listening to the radio. YES, the voting polls were still open!
On the way there, they announced the NEW president on the radio! The new president had already been announced and my dad hadn't even had his chance to vote!
My dad still votes and voices his opinion, but does it really make a difference? I honestly think that we ALL count and one vote can make a difference! So, HOW can they announce the winner when all the votes haven't even been counted?

We all matter, Bridget.
I sure didnt vote for a delegate, did you.
I think the whole "electoral vote" robs us all of our vote having any importance much at all.
Do i vote??
YES! Every single election.
I know people will wonder why i bother when i don't think it's worth the effort it takes to pull the handle, but I vote simply because i CAN. And, as long as there are men and women putting their lives on the line for democracy and human rights i will continue to do so! JUST because i CAN!
votes matter.........
The other thing that you have to remember is that you aren't just voting for President, there are a lot of other things. I think that the local laws and propositions have a lot more effect on our day to day life than our choice for president. (yet voter turnout is dismal in the off year elections)
To answer your question about your dad. If the candidate had already won all the electorial votes he needed to win before the polls were closed on the west coast then the winner could be announced before the west cost finished voting.
With Matt voting for one candidate and me for the other, I always wonder if we, in effect, cancel each other out.
Besides, elections are rigged.believe it or not ...I cannot speak for anywhere else in the US,but here in Vegas,2 weeks ago we had that early election thing going on.People who were voting for Obama,McCain was actually getting those votes. It was in the news paper.this is fact.so hey.people should really wake up and smell what the government is cooking. It isn't pretty.
If you are one of the people whose votes contributed to the winning candidate procuring the number of votes necessary to "win" your State, then congratulations, your vote counted, thus far, anyway. Otherwise, no it didn't count at all. Point blank.
This is known as a "wasted vote". In electoral systems skewed by the first-past-the post systems and, on top of that, an electoral college, a large percentage of votes cast in any election are "wasted" votes.
A lot has been written about this problem in the area of political science and electoral systems that are prone to far fewer wasted votes are in place in many countries.
So way to go! Don't accept elections in which your vote doesn't count as democratic! In a democracy everyone's vote should count in every election at the very least!
Its the local races that really matter. We have had differences of as little as 3 votes decide the winner.
I am here for commets to you for being "People of the day -Pay it forward"

It seems most worthwhile in city elections where the turnout is traditionally very low. I hope it encourages people to run if I vote for the loser.
Sometimes I wonder how any politician can fool himself into thinking a 52% vote is a landslide, but you hear it often.
