I was named by my sister after a song she liked, thankd God I was a girl because my brother was going to get to name me if I was a boy and he wanted the name percy! lol

my first name was after my uncle's girlfriend at the time and my middle name was after my mom's aunt, my mom's aunt wanted it as my first but thankfully mom pet it in middle althea yuck

LOL thanks peter, I mean Ali. LOL, atleast we can look back and laugh, when I was a kid my brother used to call me percy to aggrevate me and of course it worked! lol

I was named Angela because I was suppose to be an angel girl and called Angel.....it did not stick LOL
Many years ago when it was high risk,( back in 1956) my mothers appendix burst when she was about 4 monthes pregnant with me....to do surgery in a small town hospital and me supposably turn out "normal" was a big deal.....I guess I was given the most loving name they could come up with, and have terrific parents.
There are way to many Angela's now......I usually call my self LaRue my divorced name...and most of my friends also call me that.

No one. LOL. My mom wanted to name her first daughter Donna but my dad wanted the first daughter to be Dawn. So when my older sister was born (she is 5 yrs older than me) they asked my dad what the name will be and he said Dawn Marie......so my mom got to name the 2nd daughter, me, Donna Kay. I dont think either of us are named after anyone. My two brothers are though. Randy is named after dad and Michael is named after my moms 2 brothers (mike and Joe) = Michael Joseph.

I was named after my paternal grandmother and my fathers sister (two women in his life who never had a kind word to say to him EVER) I guess he was trying to "buy" their love (they were not nice people!!)

I was named after my maternal great-grandmother. I was born in Norway, and although she was alive when I was born, we did not come back to the US for 2 years and she had passed away in the meantime.(Not that I would have remembered her at less than 2 years old to begin with).

I was named after John F. Kennedy and Mahatma Mohandas K. Gandhi (among others who were born and named before me)!

I was named after my biological father (first name). My mom wanted to name me after my Grandpa, but he didn't want be to go through life name Elias, so instead, my middle name is Dennis, after his last name. So my mother first named a dog we had Elias, than named our current cat Dennis. (Is she sick or what?) A lot of kids I knew kept trying to call my dog Goliath. Guess they had never heard the name Elias (haven't they ever been to Big Boy?).

It is still a common thing to have such a naming policy in families in Scotland. Non-familial names like Britney, for instance, are making inroads, thanks to the many American TV programmes - so maybe this will make it easier for genealogists in, say, a hundred years' time!
