Another Gather mystery...

Okay...  After my experience yesterday...I am thinking that maybe we Gather's really don't know how the whole point process works.  I spent the entire day doing nothing but "pinging" folks and wishing them a Happy Halloween!  I tried getting to all...but couldn't.  I just pinged the folks that have spent their recent time communicating to me first, then I started on the others.

I might have made a couple of comments to a few posts, but posted nothing new at all.  All through the day my points, just kept going up and up.  I think by this morning it was up over 100?  I don't know for sure because I really didn't count.

Now...the question is?  Did these points come from the pings?  Or are these points a delayed response to my posts of previous days?  Who knows???  Only Gathering minds knows for sure... lol

Either way...  I'm not going to worry to much about it.  I like being on Gather.  Whether I'm posting, commenting, rating or pinging.  It's all just plain fun to me!

Besides...  I was just needing a reason to share another post and don't have time right now to come up with anything really constructive!!!  ROFL

Pinging is not suppossed to count towards points. My points have started going up a lot faster again too, perhaps the system is catching up from previous things.

Unless they changed the method of determining points, it must have been delayed ones coming through. Before the previous update (that is two updates ago), they did not give points for pings. This may have been re-evaluated .though ... some of the graphics have been really fun.

Hmm... I never really ping except in response to other pings, but that's great that you have fun with it! I personally forget the feature exists! Haha.
Possibly your points were going up because people were reading your posts?
I have no idea but I'm glad your points went up!

I have heard that you get points for pinging and i'm not sure, but in the course of yesterday, I did it all, post respond, photos, pinged, I was over 150 points yesterday, I don't even try to figure otu the points system, they say it varies from day to day and goes according to your activities, I am just happy to be earning a few bucks from here, Christmas is just around the corner.

pings get you 'profile views' which can add you to the people pages which may make you more valuable to gather......i have no clue about the last part, but i know when people ping you, they visit your profile page which may make them comment on something you have spotlighted.....rambling, I know...

For starters, pointy things™ on gather have been at a trickle since early September and the end of the 10 pointy things™ photo promo.

Secondly, I once upon a time read a statement posted by one of the residents of gather's corner office at the time the ping pong service began, that stated infatically that pinging and ponging would NOT earn any of the desparately desired pointy things™.

In other words - pingie no pointy!

No one knows how the points work - they do that on purpose, but no, pings won't earn you points.

No points for pings....I pinged alot yesterday and I didn't see an increase. Not many people commented on my stuff or photos either. as I get an email every time someone comments on my stuff. That is how I know to go comment on there stuff. When I am not on here much.

BY the way I love getting pings. I respond right to all pings. But I do return them if the person allows pings at once a week or more.

I like pings but rarely get around to doing it. I don't get a lot of time on gather so try to read and comment as much as i can.

Personally, I don't mind pinging yet, I don't often look for them. I might peek in about 2 times a week to see if there is something left.
I will say this, although I have left them in place, I really dislike those pings that are simply some big gaudy picture.

I use the pings to say hi, to initiate off line conversation and to send links I think might be interesting to others. I do send out the occassional ping with a big pic for a special occassion or holiday. I am pretty bad about not checking mine on a regular basis but I'm trying to get better. :)

I don't usually ping. Lately though I've been getting more pings. It is time consuming while it is fun and I just don't have a lot of time, unfortunately, to answer pings as well as comments. I put the comments first.

Hmmmm...pinging for points. I like it, but my understanding when the ping feature was first put in place was they didn't affect one's point total. Maybe the rules have changed.

I use them sparsely but only to communicate, no time to just say good morning or stick in one of those glittery pictures. Maybe check out someone who expresses similar interests, say from any comment, look at their other posts & photos, then ping them with a link to one of my own posts that they may want to view. The email is another option. I'll say no points for either.

I use pings to say thanks for comments, good or bad and to stay in touch. Points are nice but its not the reason I come here.
