Another Halloween has come and gone. We had a great time! The day started with Book-O-Ween at school, when the younger grades dress up as their favorite story book character. They get to parade around the school grounds with their class.
In the evening, we began at 4p.m. with a trip to Grandma's, and then it was off to 3 of the local supermarket chain locations for their trick or treat. At each department, the kids got a treat. The deli always gives out plastic gloves filled with popcorn, with candy corns for fingernails. The produce section lets them each pick out an apple. One store let us take home a pre-painted pumpkin for free as well!
After that it was time for a local Presbyterian church's Trunk or Treat to begin. Church members line up their cars and golf carts and decorate them wonderfully. They bring along their little dogs and dress them up, too -- the kids love it! After that we headed to an Assembly of God church in the area that had a party going on. That included a free hot dog and chips, slice of cake and lemonade. There were bounce houses and lots of cute little games the kids could play for candy. To end it all was a spooky hay ride through an actual graveyard. A few guys hid along the route in the dark, jumping out with sticks or shovels in their hands and banging them up and down the wagon as they ran past, yelling!
Our last stop for the night, just around 9p.m., was to visit my parents to show off the costumes. My hubby and I always don our Mickey and Minnie Mouse bride and groom ears, and I wear white and he wears his suit. Year after year, it's a hit. The baby was a pumpkin, the youngest boy was the Itsy Bitsy Spider, and our older daughter was a cowgirl. Our next oldest boy went as Indiana Jones, and the oldest started as a zombie -- jeans, t shirt and hoodie sweatshirt pulled low over his face. When the eye make up around one eye wore off, he declared he was now Rocky Balboa! LOL. My sis in law wore rolled up jeans, a pink shirt, and a white shirt open over that, chewed gum and had her hair in a ponytail wrapped with a bandanna -- she was a bobby soxer. Too cute.
We had a fabulous time and have more candy than we can probably eat by next Halloween . . . . Hope you all had a wonderful holiday as well.
